I'll definitely do better next month!globalhiker wrote: »Happy LA or AF Monday! 5 more AF days to go to hit the 5 month AF button. I really should get a health insurance credit for doing this. Really, wouldn't it be nice to be compensated and wouldn't it help motivate people to get healthier. Money works for me!How is it I have remained AF since Jan 9th when all that started? Not sure but I will take it as a WIN.5 -

@tobinross great job with the exercise goals - and the AF free January so far is amazing! I'm in for an AF February too.
@chicbuc let us know how you like the NA drinks, and what they are if you do like them.
@itladyee glad to hear you're on the mend, hopefully you'll be back 100% tomorrow or the next day.4 -

Another late night of work. Frustrations are high! I hate when the people who are in charge don’t explain things to those the changes effect. I end up having to be the trainer, operations police, and event planner while meeting my own deadlines for getting these events contracted and details planned. Then, let’s throw in power struggles just for good measure. It’s crazy.
Anyway, I’m tired. Going to bed as soon as my laundry is done.8 -
I decided to do some gambling today. So I was not AF. And I didn't win ☹️
I had a doctor appointment today. So, afterwards, we went out for lunch. The restaurant happened to have the video lottery machines. So I put a few bucks in and doubled my money. That was all it took! I wasn't planning on playing until next month. But...what can I say???Checking in. Not doing that great, but still trying. Happy Sunday, everyone! Go Bills and Go Washington!
@chicbuc Don't feel bad! I'm not doing that great either. But, we're both trying.
I bought a bottle of whiskey today. I've switched from Black Velvet to Jim Beam. I was getting tired of Black Velvet. Anyways, the Jim Beam is more expensive. So I'm not sure if I will pour it out tonight. If I could just save it for another day...after 3pm 🤔 I've always wished I had a time-lock safe *LOL* I still plan on going for an AF February....hey, it's only 28 days! Sorry your teams didn't win! I didn't have any favorites. My Seahawks are rarely included in the playoffs.

@MissMay, how disheartening to know that the neighbor you helped so much is turning on you and everyone else. You guys are smart to disengage. Hmmm, maybe high end vodka is a better option if you ever have any. Pony up, hubby!!!
@itlaydee so glad you’re feeling better!
@tobinross you are kicking butt with your fitness goals! They are lofty and you’re practically there!
@NonnieDoiron ugh those long workdays are… much. Hugs.
AF tonight. Long day at work, quick dinner and into bed!

Hmmm, maybe high end vodka is a better option if you ever have any. Pony up, hubby!!!
@Womona That's ironic what you said about the high end vodka. I grew up in SoCal. Where we lived was just the suburbs...kind of almost small town. When we were kids we would ride our bikes down to the corner store to buy candy and sodas. It was actually a liquor store. But, minors were allowed because they sold lots of stuff besides alcohol.
When I turned 21, one of the owner's of the store told me if I bought vodka to buy Smirnoff or another good brand because otherwise I would have hangovers and such. She was someone I grew up with and I considered her a friend (almost family) and she was friends with my mom. So I know that she wasn't just trying to make a sell. I do think it is best to spend a little more.
Also, since I switched to Jim Beam, I seem to drink less. I mix my drinks in a 16 oz tumbler with sparkling water. The same glass that I drink iced tea or water from. So much for the fancy glasses 🤔 But it seems that I'm feeling better since I switched. Go figure?2 -

AF days - 25

@itladyee They weren't really my teams. I just didn't want the two that made it to make it Glad you're feeling better!
@shpuniarsky Great job on the streak! I drink my flavored seltzers in my wine glass and even order club soda, no ice, in a wine glass when we're out sometimes
@SurferGirl1982 You've made wonderful progress this month even if you've still got A days! You had NO AF days last month at all, if I recall. You're doing awesome and I hope you get that dry February under your belt!
@SparkSpringtime69 You're killing it, and it's inspiring!
@longrun22 Thanks for the encouragement! It does not go unnoticed!
@NonnieDoiron 70 hour work weeks are NUTS! Take care of yourself! I agree that maybe an NA wine might make your husband feel like you're drinking with him without not meeting your own goals
@MissMay Sorry about your friend. It is good that you're setting boundaries for your own mental health
@Womona You're moderation is also an inspiration! Hope you're fighting off that cold
@tobinross and @tmbg1 Keep it up! Doing great!
I polished off some less alcohol wine last night. It was pretty good. I really like the Simi 85 calorie and 9% alcohol chardonnay. Tonight will be be AF.
I have Clever Botanical Margaritas, Sober Carpenter IPAs, and Luna Bay assortment of raspberry rambler, blueberry mojito, and mango mule. Anyone tried any of these? I'm inclined to try the mango mule tonight, I think. I'll report back.
The only thing I've been on point with this month is exercise. I've managed 2-3 weight workouts per week with 2-3 45-60 minute walks on non weight days. Food has been OK, but wine puts me over my calories. Gotta reel that in to see some results on the scale and in the mirror.
Have a great Tuesday, peeps!

I have surprised myself and held tight everyday this month. However, to ease the weirdness of feeling deprived, I have had several different kinds of non-alcoholic beer. My two top favorites are the Heineken 00, 79 calories per bottle and Athletic Haze IPA, it was 45 calories and really pretty good. I have my annual physical on the 7th. Bloodwork, the whole giddy up, so my plan is to continue alcohol free until after all that is done. My best to all of you in your AF journey.

@Born2Run1958 - way to go! Keep it up and see how that physical shakes out for you! Also might check out Best Days NA beers...good taste (at least to me) and around 60 calories (depends on style)6

Good morning LA friends - our final countdown week — My dry ish January was personally successful - my #1 goal going into the month is to skip days during a week - I will have 15 AF days tonight.
I will be on the lookout to try some new N.A. beverages in February. My current favs are Stella 0.0 beer (59 cals) Recess N.A. mojito or cosmo flavors with adaptogens (35 cals), or club soda, cran and lime. I also like the Ollipops now and then but they have a little sugar. I’m not doing N.A. wines so much as I’d rather just have none (hard to believe). But I do like the Chateau Diana dealcohilized Chardonnay from Bev Mo.
For low alcohol, the Kendall Jackson 8% Chardonnay from my grocery store and Meiomi Bright 8% Pinot Noir (excellent) at Total Wine.
Make it a great day!4 -
@chicbuc please do report back! I haven’t tried those bev’s yet myself. Good on all that exercise too!

Setting up for success!!!
Goals for January - 85% Dry (AF = 26 A=5)
Monthly Stats - On Target If When I finish strong, the best I can do is 81% Still a win!
AF = 15 ~ 56 %
A = 12 ~ 34 % (two days only 1 glass)
Current Streak - AF = 0
Longest Streak - AF = 7
I have to correct yesterday's stats. I actually had one glass of wine and was content. I wasn't planning to. I was feeling better except for the continual rumbling in my stomach. No more, no less, no pain, just a rumble. If you've ever sat next to a refrigerator making ice...yep, that's the sound. I was sitting at about 800 calories, and I wasn't hungry, so I said, I wonder if a glass of wine might calm my stomach (the meds weren't working, at least the little that I took / I'm terrible when it comes to meds). If it didn't calm my stomach, it might calm my mind thinking about my stomach!
So I enjoyed one glass of wine and then resumed my water. I'm not sure if it worked or if I just no longer cared!
So twice this week, I have stopped at one glass of wine!
Today, I'm very close to 100% and I feel good too. I think my body also needed the addition rest.
@NonnieDoiron ~ {{{{hugs}}}}}
@Born2run1958 ~ Sounds like you're doing well. Nothing wrong with NA beer, it's still NA!! Good luck on your physical!

Hubby got that apothecary book that’s been all over my FYP on TikTok, and he started a few of the detox and anti-inflammatory tinctures. So, I decided 3 days ago to join him hoping it’ll do something for me. It’s only been 3 days, so I haven’t noticed a difference or anything.
Went to PT today for my hip. Initial appointment, and the therapist said what I figured he say. He thinks it’s arthritis. I’m not paying a $38 copay 3 times a week to do squats, leg lifts, and hip thrusts when I have a husband at home who is a performance coach with a degree in exercise science with an emphasis in physiology who can watch me do that crap for free. 🙄 But, I still want an X-ray to rule out anything and everything else, but I don’t know if the doctor will do it without the PT being completed.
Anyway, no wine for a few days and feeling a little better and like I don’t want it for now. I’m super dehydrated still though, and I’m having trouble getting caught up on my water intake.
This weekend will be a quiet weekend. So, I plan to go back through all the posts and read and catch up with all of you better instead of just skimming through. Time to breakout the notepad as I read, so I can remember what I want to respond to. LOL 😂5 -

AF last night and weight workout this morning.
The NA IPA was not my cup of tea (HA!). It was very "hoppy." I took a sip and moved on. The Luna Bay Rasberry Rambler (10 calories) and Mango Mule (50 calories) were very good! Not too sweet and very good flavor. I had the most hope for the Clever Botanical Margaritas, but they were sweetened with stevia and way too sweet for me, but if you like sweet, you would probably enjoy them and 0 calories. I guess I'll stick with my sparkling water since I really do enjoy them, and I can't seem to find anything else that I truly enjoy.
@NonnieDoiron Glad you'll get a little relaxation this weekend Sometimes when there are a lot of posts I want to make sure to at least acknowledge, I open this thread on my phone and respond one by one on the computer

AF again last night and will be tonight. Not 100% yet, and don’t want to be dehydrated. I’m going to offer to bring my LA white wine tomorrow- I don’t think my sinuses can handle red wine quite yet. I was in bed for most of yesterday and it was glorious! Just the rest that I needed!4
-
I had my grandson yesterday morning for a few hours and helped him with his 3rd grade math, reading and writing. That was such a pleasure to see him work, sing a little, and act silly while he was describing the math equations and reading out loud. He’s my one and only GS out of six so he holds a special place in my heart!
Took another evening walk last night at dusk and reflected in the beauty of winter here and having another AF day, just feeling very present and grateful.
Then, while making dinner I filled a fun ball jar with ice and sparkling water and added a splash of cherry juice to taste and a squeezed a wedge of lime.
@chicbuc sorry your new N.A. drinks aren’t panning out so well. For beer, I pretty much only drink Stella Artois 0.0 (59 cals). I can’t believe it tastes exactly like the original IMO.
I’m allowing for one more wine night by Friday night (end of Jan) and haven’t decided which night yet. Want to pair it with a nice dinner or something not just because. I find that so interesting that I’m even thinking about skipping again today. Mindfulness at work!
For those of you still under the weather with colds and illness, I do hope you feel better soon!.
My LA goals for Feb. will be similar to dry ish January. Hope to see you on the February thread. 💕

Exercise:
CrossFit classes attended - 15 of 16 goal
Meters rowed - 93,787 of 100,000
Taking a rest day today so have to trim back on snacks and such to stay within daily calorie budget.
Tomorrow I will achieve both exercise goals. Couple of more days to meet January goal of AF for the entire month...that along with 6 lbs or so weight loss (both very pleasant surprises to me!). It will be a little more challenging on all goals next month in February and an out-of-town trip planned but will make best of it.
Funny note - about mid-January I stopped off at liquor store that i have frequented for several years (on the route between work and home) and picked up a six-pack of NA beer. The people behind the counter made it seem like I alone kept them in business buying alcohol! Made me realize that I had been perhaps become to frequent a customer there!
My thought at beginning of January was that I would have more issues with cravings and opportunities (or any excuse whatsoever) to have a drink and it seemed like it was going to be a very long slog to get through the month...now at almost the end of January, the things that helped keep me on track was being diligent with tracking food intake and weighing out snacks and food. The NA beers certainly helped as well!! Plus making sure I was prepared every morning to make it to the 5AM workout class (I know - pretty early but it was too easy to find excuses not to go after work.) It was also too easy to miss class if I did not lay out my gear the night before - that warm bed on a cold morning just would not let me go!
And this discussion group has been critical as well...a little support goes a long way and being able to send support and encouragement to others has helped me too. So thanks to all and on to February!!7 -

I drank last night and woke up wishing that I hadn't. I've been drinking about a half pint and dumping out the rest. But, yesterday, I started a little earlier and I drank almost the whole pint.
I really want to be done with alcohol. It is not my friend and it is harming my body. If I can just remember that the next time I have the urge!
I plan on being AF today.
@tobinross You're doing great! I wish I could follow in your footsteps. Along with several others including @globalhiker Almost 5 months...amazing!!!5 -
@surfergirl1982 - still have a few days left in January...start a streak today! What has been your longest streak so far? I am a huge believer in breaking larger goals into smaller steps to get there...at one time, I would train to run a marathon once a year. Which means numerous weeks of smaller runs gradually building to longer runs until just before race day so you can finish 26.2 miles without dying!
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” - Chinese proverb....7 -
@SurferGirl1982 Today sounds like a good day to be AF and start another streak! Thinking of you!
@itladyee Get these last 3 days! I'm doing it with you!
@tobinross You are awesome! Great month AF and exercise and weight loss...the trifecta!7 -
@tobinross My longest streak was a couple of days short of four months (118 days) back at the end of 2021 to the beginning of 2022. But I had been hospitalized for an alcohol-related problem. So, I had very high motivation at that time. In 2023, I had quite a few streaks. The longest being 30 days. And, last year in 2024, my longest streak was 21 days. Here are the number of AF days I've had in the past three years:
2022: 124 days AF
2023: 106 days AF
2024: 46 days AF
I hope to beat those all in 2025. I didn't do well at all last year.
@chicbuc I'm hoping to go for the three day streak. I'll try my best to join you and hopefully @itladyee will go along for the ride 😀6 -
Everyone seems to be hanging tough. Had to NA beers today at lunch. It really does seem to satisfy when alcohol is out of the picture. @TobinRoss, you are doing great. Between working out and not drinking I do indeed feel better, and I am grateful Hope everyone had a great day.

Just a little success story for one night: I had already rearranged my food log for today and deleted my dinner and planned to buy a bottle of wine on the way home and drink it without going over my calories. I got inside the store, and the desire just left me. So, I got in my car and drove home and here I am at eating my healthy dinner and drinking my sparkling water and praising God because I HAVE been praying multiple times a day that He would remove my desire. Just a small testimony for today. Have a great night all!9
