@globalhiker IRT this… (Q: What brand/model bike do you ride and which would you recommend for a home spin bike?) Oh goodness.
On the road, I use my 1986 Panasonic DX-3000 (upgraded from 12 to 14 speeds and I installed index shifting because friction shifting drives me batty) on days where I want a challenge. On days when I want to go fast, I use my 2018 Bianchi Sempre Pro (loaded with Shimano 105 components). When I'm faffing about on rough stuff, I have a 2016 Marin Nicasio that's beat to snot but still tons of fun, loaded with Shimano Claris. I'm restoring a 1983 Cannondale ST-555 and am going to turn it into the world's weirdest TT bike. But as you'll note, most of what I do (thank you, crazy drivers and golf carts) is Zwift. There's a wide array of what I use there.
Indoors, I started off on pure rollers using either my PowerCal HRM to communicate with Zwift (and I was usually riding my Panasonic or my Cannondale on this), and when the PowerCal would drop out I'd switch to JetBlack speed and cadence sensors. Then I moved up to a Kinetic Road Machine Fluid Trainer (so not a 'smart' trainer that alters resistance, just one that raises its resistance the faster you ride) with InRide (it's a wheel-on trainer - I used the Cannondale almost exclusively on it, and take this one with me when I want to Zwift while camping since it doesn't require a power source). When I got more serious about Zwifting, I bought a CycleOps (then Saris) H2 (they now are on H3 plus, which you can pick up for under $400 these days) - I mounted a 1972 Schwinn Super Le Tour 12.2 onto it with… ancient LR22 Shimano drive components on it. Now, my daughter has my H2 (she has a Fuji with Shimano Tourney on it), and I have a Schwinn Voltre that I inherited from my boyfriend (the frame's too small for him) on a Zwift Hub One with the Zwift Cog (it's comparable to the Wahoo Kickr Core).
Personally, I ADORE a direct drive trainer because there's no tire wear, and I can pick up a piece of junk bike and plunk it on it (that Schwinn Super Le Tour cost me $50 at a yard sale). They all have their own fitness apps you can use if you don't want to do Zwift, Rouvy, myWhoosh, BKool, or whatever other platform that's out there. There's nothing wrong with tire-on trainers, per se, I just don't like wearing out tires and not going anywhere LOL (But the Kinetic Road Machine (not the 'smart version' but rather just the fluid trainer) is a FANTASTIC wheel on trainer that you can pick up pretty cheaply 2nd hand).
Next post will be ride information lol - this one's long enough as it is!2 -
Lots of racing, a couple workout rides, tons of short ‘Big Spin’ efforts to close out the ’90’s’ items, some trips to McDonalds on real roads and meetups galore that I’ve been delinquent in logging. Just supplying a link to my Strava profile if you want to verify lol - there are seriously too many short efforts to list individually. D’oh.

387/2025 miles done. Got in the usual weekly RPM class where I hit 13 miles plus. I upped the intensity to as high as I could go. It was in the 60s most of the time and a few times hit low 100s. I checked and it's a Lifefitness brand. Read online that model, if not calibrated, can display incorrect wattage. My calorie burn for example, approaches 500 cals on my garmin forerunner and it's current with my stats (weight, age, etc) but the cycle displays low 300s typically.
I had a Specialized mountain bike I wasn't using much so had put that on a basic trainer positioned facing the TV. Switched to a basic Lanos stationary bike I can carry and position in front of the TV. It's comfy but not a real spin bike. Garmin shows me burning barely 200 calories in 1 hour on that one. Now that I use a real spin bike at gym class, I see a huge difference. Muscles used, intensity and energy expenditure, and fun. I am hooked.
Didn't bike on Tuesday, weekly rest day. Today easy 3 mi hill run + body pump class. Thursday is the day I'll aim for biking miles catch up.

433/2025 miles done! Been cycling to youtube videos of cycling thru France, so much fun. I lost another 1 lb. and pairing cycling after running (can't do the other way around yet) is really helping to get into fat burn mode. I am going easy on the bike though.
My hard cycling will be RPM tomorrow, need fresh legs for that one.

Fell off the logging wagon again, but not that many to catch up with - missed riding on Saturday due to going to the RV show in town with my parents and having a belated birthday celebration with my mom.
Been working in Zwift with the new game aspect they have where you ride your bikes to upgrade them and potentially unlock prototype/test bikes that were never officially released - I'm going for the Cannondale R4000 (which I affectionally call the 'skater bike') because it's simply ridiculous and I love it.Ride 1 - 24.31 miles <- 2/20 Zwift climb portal 100%, 75%, 50% in one ride

Oh goodness, @Mari33a here's hoping you recover quickly!!
Today was a day of nonsense. Two meetups? No problem. The multiple rides to finish out the Zwift Big Spin event? UGH. Just linking my Strava profile in the event that anyone wants to verify my milage, because that was a lot of riding.

457 miles/2025 done. You guys are doing great. I will catch up!
Only logged 9mi since my last post. That one was a 5 intensity out of 10. The cycling is improving my run time, I am back in the 11 min mile range without even pushing it.
This morning I am staying in and hopping on my bike to a "long easy" ride.
Also committing to adding a second gym spin class to the weekly activity. Yeah I have to wake up at 4 am but I don't have to pay extra for the class and now that I've said it, I will do it.
