How do I input the entire pot of food and then work out a portion by grams?

I cook for the family, so I would like to be able to weight each item then weight the finish pan of food afterwards. I would then weigh my portion and have the app work out the calories etc for me. I used my fitness pal years ago and this was possible but I can't figure it out now. Also, is the bar code scanner only on the paid version?

The most simple question first: yes, the bar code scanner is a premium feature (or certainly for the US).
As for the other question: I recommend using the Meals functionality for that (or alternatively the recipe builder).
- create a meal with all your ingredients
- weigh the finished dish (I like to add the weight of the finished dish in the meal name)
- weigh your own portion
- add the appropriate fraction of the dish to your diary. For example: if the dish weighed 2000gr and your portion weighed 300gr, you'd log 0.15 (300 divided by 2000) of the meal to your diary1
