"Scan a Meal" Premium feature (Android app)

Hello,

Today, after losing the battle of the bulge for the second year in a row, I've started to log all my meals again to monitor my calories. I used to do it before but found it boring, so this time I thought I would try the photo scan feature to make it more fun (I'm aware that the estimate is less accurate).

I decided to bite the bullet and sign up to Premium just so I can use the "Scan a Meal" feature.

I have to say that I'm extremely, extremely disappointed in this, and it doesn't appear to work at all!! I had chicken with rice and beans for lunch, and a handful of pork rinds with one Cadbury Iced Latte Twix for a snack, and for both meals after submitting the photo which took ages to process, I'm getting a list of foods which are nothing like what I sent!

I've also signed up to paid version for three other competing apps offering the same thing to see which one works, and they all correctly and accurately recognised the meal except for MyFitnessPal. I even scanned the bar of chocolate separately, and it's giving me results like potatoes and other fruit!! 🤬

Can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong?? I've had, and logged my workouts and weight, on the free MyFitnessPal account for many years which worked for me, and only upgraded to use the meal scan feature - so if it doesn't work I'll cancel my subscription and use a service which actually works.

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

FWIW, I don't the feature works well, or saves any time. I experimented with it, and didn't like it.

I admit, I didn't expect it to work well in my personal context (I eat odd things), and I'd already been successfully and happily using MFP to lose/maintain weight for years before the feature came along, so I didn't waste more time messing with it, past the initial experiment.

There are reasons I like premium. That gee-whiz feature isn't one of them. YMMV, as may others'.
