Macros?

So I'm a clean eater, that occasionally cheats. I've recently found myself wanting to enter into the competitive realm of the fitness world. I know diet is key here. I want people's opinions on macros, and maybe some help as to where to start. I don't really want to hire a nutritionist if I can avoid it. Help please. :)

    typical macros for bodybuilders/fitness whatever are

    0.8-1gram of protein per lb of bodyweight
    0.4gram of fat per lb of bodyweight
    fill the rest of your calories with carbs


    not saying it's right or wrong......but it's where most people start.
