Deleted and Reloaded App, Calorie Goals Changed

My iOS app was intolerably slow and kept shutting down, creating gateway errors, or just sitting there doing nothing . Have had this problem for several weeks. As per your iOS page suggestion, I deleted and reloaded the app this afternoon.

It changed my calorie goals. I went in to see if any updating necessary, and all the goal/Profile info is the same as before.

I have messed and messed and messed with it, and also compared the “new” MFP recommendation to other calorie calculators. They are all coming up with numbers similar to my “old” goal.

My old goal was 2340 per day, as shown on yesterday’s diary. It’s now 2050. That’s extremely low for the personal info and the activity level I set.

Is there a current glitch with calculations?

I don’t think I’m crazy.

I worry it’s setting similar unrealistically low figures for newer members, who might not know to question their goal.

I know how to force it in, but what about other users who might be getting artificially low calorie goals?

I figured out the problem but am utterly puzzled with it.

I had to change privacy settings to re-allow MFP to sync with Apple Watch.

That one change immediately gave me 2310 calories. (I can live with the other 30 since I’m a few pounds down from last time I updated goals).

So why would simply syncing Apple Watch give me back 260 calories?

Does this mean users without Apple Watch (and potentially other fitness trackers) are being calculated fewer calories than those with a tracker?

That's really bizarre. I can confirm that there definitely isn't a purposeful choice being made that's making this occur, but it's possible there's a bug occurring.

As usual I would definitely suggest reaching out to our support team if you see this continue to pop up.

Silly me. I thought this was the support and tech thread. Where do I reach out then?

Btw, I also found that if I changed my loss per week and then changed it back to maintenance then back to same loss per week, I was getting an odd 10 calorie difference each time I selected the same loss per week.

    I hadn’t changed anything else.

I was pretty anxious to get those calories back. 😅

Possible the Garmin connection is including daily motion calories burned over and above the "sedentary" or whatnot setting selected.

Sorry, we've conversed via email via our support channel so I thought you knew how to get in touch. This Tech Support forum isn't monitored by our support team, and I can't really help you with troubleshooting here- ideally this is meant for easy questions like "How do I do x feature") and for peer to peer support. There's a banner at the top of this category- and when you create a new post- clarifying this, though I am starting to wonder if that's not showing up for people.
