Starting again

I have started again after gaining 40 pounds back. It hard to get motivated this time.

I lost 40 pounds three years ago. Gained 25 back over those three years. Went on a diet in October and lost those 25 pounds. So it can be done. In fact, once you start eating more healthy, you'll feel better. The desire to eat things you shouldn't does entirely go away, but there are compensations, like moving more easily, fitting into your clothes again, etc.

Maybe it's just me, but I try pretty hard to make plans that limit the need for things like motivation, willpower, and discipline. As a hedonistic aging hippie flake, those are not my strongest muscles, realistically.

What worked better for me was focusing on gradually finding and practicing slightly better routine eating and activity habits that first led me over a period of months from class 1 obese to goal weight, and has kept me at a healthy weight for 8+ years since . . . so far ;) .

That's a different mindset from "lose weight fast so things can go back to normal", which is pretty much the recipe for yo-yo loss and regain, IMO.

A lot of people seem to arrive here planning to follow some restrictive named diet that's being trumpeted in tabloids and the blogosphere, then they maybe stack punitively intense, unpleasant daily exercise on top of that. That does take a lot of motivation, and usually doesn't seem to end well.

Whatever you do decide to do, I'm cheering for you to succeed. In my life, the quality of life improvement from reaching/sustaining a healthy weight has been more than worth the effort. Best wishes!

    This is my 4th time...
First time I freaked out because i weighed 192.2 lbs. Got down to 150 lbs before I let it go... let me tell you it felt awesome to be in my 30s and the same size i was in high school...
then I got back up to 200. lost around 20 pounds.
then up to 240. lost 25 pounds
    then back to ~240
Now I plan on being a life time logger.
this is day 9. I'm down 7 lbs (weekly official 5.2lbs)
i finally put my picture in my profile. I don't like it. I want it to change.
find what does it for you and then put one figurative foot in front of the other.
