Welcome @2ffyk5kxhv484! I bet Maine is absolutely gorgeous (cold) right now.

I'd definitely recommend checking out some of our other categories for the tips you're looking for- there is a wealth of great information to be found here. :)

    Hello, and welcome!

Maine is beautiful, whether the coastal area or the inland forested parts. I hope you enjoy living there; I enjoyed visiting.

I'm also a senior, living in central lower, not-so-remote ;) Michigan. I'm 69, been on MFP for 9+ years, just under a year of weight loss and 8+ years of maintaining a healthy weight since, after around 30 previous years of overweight/obesity.

There are lots of good resources here on MFP. Weight loss strategies vary, but personally I think tailoring the plan to our own needs is important, and think following one of the trendy named diets usually isn't going to be the best route, but other opinions will differ.

I've found some good recipes on the MFP blogs, here:

Regular MFP users also share recipes and meal ideas in the Recipes part of the Community, so you might want to take a look. It's also possible to take your existing cooking style, and lighten things up to reduce calories or put more nutrition into the calorie level: Less frying, subbing plain Greek yogurt for sour cream, some of the protein pastas now are good, etc. You might find advice about that sort of thing in the Food and Nutrition part of the Community, or that's a good place to ask questions about it.

Low impact exercise is going to depend on where you are now. There are lots of things on YouTube, if you don't have local fitness classes. If you're toward the exercise beginner end of the scale, there are many YouTube videos aimed at seniors that tend to be more mild, or a wider range if you have some fitness routine already going. I've been pretty active for almost 20 years now, starting when I was still obese, so I'm not a great resource on that topic. I used some of the Richard Simmons "Oldies" workouts when I was starting out, and enjoyed them, but I'm not sure they're even available anymore.

I'd suggest reading around a bit in the Community, as you have time, especially in the "Most Helpful Posts" section in each of the subject areas. There's some good stuff in there, and I learned a lot when I was starting out. If you have questions, don't hesitate to post them in what seems like the most related subject area. Everyone here was starting up at some point, and I've found most people to be very helpful.

It helps, if you post a question, to use a specific subject line, say "Low Impact Exercise for Seniors" just as an example. Sometimes people post with a subject like "Help Me!?!". I think they get fewer helpful replies, because experienced people scanning for topics they can assist with may not notice something that generic.

I'm wishing you much success here with your goals: In my experience, the quality of life improvement is more than worth the effort investment. Best wishes!
