The B-word is a horrible word...

...to describe the controlled eating of 100-400 calories above maintenance level.

I really don't think bulking is a good word to describe what we're doing when we gain weight in a very slow, controlled manner.

I eat 2900 to 3600 cal per day. But my intake is still low compared to how much most overweight men my height/age (and some obese women) take in.

It's not really bulking, imho. Anyone got a better word?

    Does it really matter?

Maybe just focus on the fitness goals rather than the terminology. The terminology isn't going to be what gets you to where you want to be.

If you are doing a slow bulk, it's generally called a lean bulk.

ETA: I bulked a couple of months ago. The word does not bother me at all.

Reverse diet is not eating above maintenance - it's walking your calories up to maintenance.

Yeah, I actually hate the word lean and try not to use it too often, b/c some people use it (improperly) to mean thin or skinny. "Skinny bulk" makes no sense.

    "Slow bulk" it is!

Seeing as how The Hulk is pretty much all muscle, it sort of fits. The rage, not so much. But overall, The Hulk is pretty awesome.

The funny bone isn't a bone, and the dark side of the moon isn't actually dark, and I can't remember the last time I used a dial on a phone, or hung one up.

Interesting conclusion to jump to. People that are curious about words in their down time, are doomed to never make progress? I don't see the link.

Phrases that require more careful interpretation than they are usually given:

Deceptively Simple (Can this phrase be described as being deceptively simple, or not?)

Waste of time (Where did it go? And how could any action change the outcome of it going to that place?)

Does thinking about this mean that my fitness progress is suddenly going to stop in it's tracks and not continue forward?

Yes, it does have multiple meanings and opens up to a lot of confusion of what it means.

i thought the funny bone was the humerus which is a bone, but it isn't funny. Or at least I can't see anything particularly funny about my humeri. They're rather useful.

If you're gaining weight, then aren't you adding bulk? Therefore the term is correct, no matter how slowly you do it.
