Resting calories

Hi there

Where does resting calories burned come into the equation. For example I burned 500 yesterday which is showing in the app as exercise but I also burned 1900 as resting cals. So in effect I burned 2400. Leaving a huge excess ? I’m sure there’s a really simple explanation 😀

Just to be alive burns calories. I mean, you can't run a whole body, with blood circulation, organs, brain, digestion and all that without energy. Thus even if you were in a coma your body would burn calories. The bigger your body, the move energy it needs.

MFP included an estimate of your resting calories when it gave you your base calorie goal.

Your device also estimates (not measures) resting calories.

In effect, when MFP and the device compare data to give you a calorie adjustment, they're comparing what MFP thought you'd burn (in total including its estimate of resting calories) with what the device thinks you burned (in total including its estimate of resting calories).

The resting calories are included, just not shown in MFP as a separate line item.
