The app automatically changed my settings?

Hi again, last time I wrote I thought I was on a plateau, but I guess I wasn't. My next question is when I passed 10 pounds the app recommended I change my setting according to my new weight. I hit yes and it took away 60 calories right off the top of my daily goal. Does that seem right? Has anyone else done what I've done? Thanks just worried I made the wrong choice by hitting yes

You can always manually reset the calories back up if you wish.

I'm jut curious why they'd lower my calorie intake?

As you lose weight, you need less calories. So every time you lose 10 pounds, MFP will reset your calorie goal to account for this.

    Hope this helps :flowerforyou:

As your weight decreases, your body requires less energy etc.. :flowerforyou:

Because you lost weight your body requires less cals to sustain it, this a decrease in cals eat is needed. This only changes if you add muscle mass to your body which requires more cals to sustain.

Because smaller bodies need less calories to survive and move, as a general rule.

As you lose weight, your calorie deficit would be getting smaller and smaller.

Let's say your body burns 2500 cals per day, and your target to eat is 2000. As you lose weight, your body needs a little less, and a little less, until eventually you might only burn 2000 cals per day and you're no longer losing weight.

You can manually re-set it as someone suggested, or you could exercise a little more to earn more calories.
  • This is normal. The less you weigh the less you need to maintain, so if you stick to your calorie goal while losing, you'll lose less and less until you hit maintenance.

However, I stopped using MFP's calorie goal because I felt hungry too often and was losing weight too fast. I used this calculator:

    http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/

I calculated my TDEE as completely sedentary (because I really am), then divided the resulting calories by 100. Multiplied by 20. I subtracted the resulting number from my TDEE and that's the number I go by.

For example, this is my output from the calculator:

    Your BMR is: 2082 CALORIES/DAY
    Your TDEE is: 2498 CALORIES/DAY

    I divide 2498 by 100 = 24.98 (which is 1%)
    Multiply by 20 to get 20% = 499.6 calories
    Subtract that from my TDEE = 2498 - 499 = 1999 calories a day.

I rounded it up to 2060 because psychologically this helps me to stick to this limit much better than a silly number like 1999, but this is quite a bit more than what MFP recommended to me. I feel a ton better, so don't get too caught up with the number MFP sets. I recommend you give the TDEE - 20% or -15% a go, see what the numbers are and if you'd be happier with that.

I do regularly recalculate how much my TDEE has changed when I lose every 5-10 pounds though.
