since my little guy has been eating real food, its been kinda cool. he just eats a bit off my plate and I share some of my calories with him. awesome!! but now he is really eating quite a bit. so now when I share with him, I end up raiding the fridge after because I am still hungry. how do you all with toddlers eat/share with them?

Why not give him his own plate? If you are worried about him breaking the plate, buy a plastic plate for him.

    ^This.
I also have a toddler (19 months) and she eats the same foods we do, on her own plate, and is starting to use utensils.

Well.. all this sharing and kids not finishing their plate and you finishing it for them.. it's a mess as far as counting calories goes.

But, if you start compromising on your calories pretty soon your guessing everything and you don't know what you ate.

So make yourself and him a separate plate and don't eat anything off his plate. And throw some food away if it's left.

he is 10 months. I do at times give him his own serving, but then if we eat out I dont. he really cant eat a whole kids meal yet. I guess I just need to stop feeding him from my plate, because it does really throw me off. it was kind of a dumb question really with a simple answer. I guess I just wanted to see how everyone else does this. He is just in that stage in the middle of sharing and eating his own food.

When you go to a restaurant, ask for an extra plate. Put some of your food on his plate, and you eat what's on yours. This way, you won't eat all of your food (usually a good idea in a restaurant), and he learns how to eat off a plate in a restaurant.

I agree with help fit, don't eat what's left on his plate. This is a habit you don't want to start!

    Good luck to you.

When ours was younger what we would do at restaurants (and sometimes we still do this if there's no kids menu or its only fried stuff) is order mashed potatoes and steamed/sauteed vegetables for her- but we definitely offered her tastes of our dishes too, to broaden her palate and expose her to new things. also, when I ran our family restaurant, I noticed some people brought separate food for their little one. I don't ascribe to that method, but to each their own You'll figure out what works best for you guys.

I refuse to share, I'm weighing everything I put in my plate, it would just mess me up.
