All MFP has to work with is the title of the food. I don't see how they're going to know which foods are probiotic.

Don't get me wrong: I think eating probiotic foods is important. I eat lots of them, on purpose. But if I eat some kind of miso, how does MFP know that's miso with live bugs in it, rather than something that's been canned or pasteurized so it's no long a source of live organisms? Ditto for yogurt or kefir: Some are live culture, some aren't (which kind of makes them not-yogurt in my world, but the label may still say yogurt). Ditto for things like sauerkraut or kim chi or vinegar: Raw, unpasteurized versions are probiotic, canned/pasteurized ones aren't. That isn't captured in the food data in MFP.

It would be nice if this were possible, but I think it's not . . . and I'm saying that as someone with a long career history in IT and specifically including data analysis and definition.

Here's one option as a work-around: If probiotic foods are really important to you, create a meal slot in your diary to list those, rather than putting them in other meals. You have 6 meal slots, and you can customize those in any way you want, including renaming the default ones.
