New to my fitness pal

Hi everyone, I am 65 years old just starting to diet and exercise and my goal is to lose enough weight to throw out all my clothes and buy new ones in the summer

    Hello, and welcome!

Depending on where you're starting, that should be an achievable goal. Why do I say "depending"? Well, I lost around 50 pounds here at age 59-60. I found that moving down one size at the start of that was quite a few pounds . . . but the closer I got to goal weight, the fewer pounds there were between sizes. Pounds wise, it was linear, even gradually slowing intentionally as I got closer to goal. Size wise, the changes came at increasing speed!

Decent odds you can lose enough weight by summer to need to drop in size, though - Summer's a way off yet.

You and I are very different motivationally, I've got to admit. For me, having to buy all new clothes from the underwear on out . . . that was probably the single worst thing about weight loss. Man, I hate to clothes shop! Yeah, I know that's weird. :D On the plus side, it's been part of my motivation to stay at a healthy weight since, so I don't have to go through that again. Nine plus years since loss, so far, so good - same jeans size throughout. Admittedly, that's a smaller factor in staying at a healthy weight compared to the overall health and quality of life benefits of being at a healthy weight, once I got a taste of that . . . but the wardrobe thing is in the mix, for me. ;)

Quite seriously: I'm cheering for you to succeed. Getting to a healthy weight is more than worth the effort, bringing quite a few quality of life improvements. If getting into a new wardrobe is one of those benefits for you, I'm cheering for you to accomplish that, too.

    Best wishes!
