Protein powder suggestions?

I am falling a bit short on my protein goal 3-7 days a week.
I primarily eat a vegetarian diet, I eat meat once a week.
Hoping to find a good protein powder. Suggestions?

In which country do you live? Do you want to buy online or in a store?

I live in USA, I don’t mind buying in store or online, either way works for me.

I just get whatever whey protein powder is on sale, usually via Amazon. Check slickdeals for alerts for protein powder. Look for brands like Optimum Nutrition, Muscle Milk, Dymatize, Muscletech, MyProtein. Costco also sells ON Gold. About $7/lb is a very good price, over $10 is a bit expensive imo. Look for at least 70% calories from protein, preferably 75%. Isolate is a better quality source and is less likely to give you stomach issues if that's a potential concern for you, but it also costs more and imo isn't necessary unless you can't handle regular whey.

Costco also does a good deal on big packs of Oikos greek yogurt.

Whey protein is about the most bioavailable, if dairy sources are acceptable to you. Unflavored, it tastes mildly milk-like, which may or may not be OK depending on how you want to use it. Soy is probably the best plant source, if it being plant-based matters to you, and most people find that to taste fairly neutral in unflavored forms. There are other potential plant sources, but generally speaking they'd need multiple plant sources in the mix in order to add up to being complete in essential amino acids (EAAs), which is important to us as vegetarians, and bioavailability can also be an issue with some plant proteins.

There are also ways to ramp up food-sourced protein, speaking as a fellow vegetarian and calorie counter. I was able to get in the 80s-90s grams on reduced calories most of the time while losing, now get 100g+ daily on maintenance. I'm ovo-lacto, do use a lot of dairy (not many eggs), but think I could do that even fully plant based.

I can't suggest brands or flavors of protein powders, because I soon learned I don't find protein powder/bars as tasty or satisfying as food :wink: , so I stopped trying them after an initial experimental period, years back during weight loss. \

I'm not dissing protein powder: I think it can be a useful aid transitionally while figuring out a sustainable way of eating, and some people do like it, unlike me. For me, a key goal during loss was finding routine daily habits I could live with long term that would give me appropriate calories and good nutrition, but also keep me happy at the same time, so I could stay at a healthy weight once I got there. So far, so good.

    Best wishes!

I’ve been trying to add more yogurt/milk, egg whites into my diet. I’m still falling a bit short. Maybe I’ll hold off on the powder. Some days I’m meeting my 85g goal but I really have to focus on eating protein rich foods.
