    SIL just popped in for 5 minutes to give us a hug. She had to get back to collect her friends. There is a train strike today (!!!!) so she is driving them back to her house and they will stay the night. What a performance! Even so, it was nice to see her. I hope she can get down properly soon.

    She was quite tearful about her aging old colleagues, one of whom has MS. All 14 were in nurse training together. She also said how touched she was that I had prepared a snack for her on Friday. A pleasure.

    Might go out for a bit of food shopping at M&S. Might not. I've washed my hair and got my face on, so it seems a bit of a waste.

    Lisa - gorgeous yarn. It was a similar skein of yarn that eventually led to us buying a farm. I didn't want to pay the high price for unique yarn so bought a spinning wheel and decided to make my own. Then I had to source the wool. Found some at farms nearby that also had critters for sale. So bought some angora goats for the mohair and Shetland sheep and angora rabbits and crammed them onto 1 1/2 acres near Issaquah, WA. Then we decided we needed a bigger place and ended up with 40 acres, lots of sheep, and a hay business in SW Washington. We were in our 40's then. Hard work but DH and I loved every minute of it. And miss it a ton. My advice - pay for the yarn, lol.

    RE - you are superwoman! Glad the furniture found a new home so quickly and the remodel plans are going forward. Very exciting! Great job on the weight loss.

    Barbie - add my hugs. I have boxes of papers and photos that I'll probably never go through until I move from this place. Can't even bring myself to open the boxes. Glad to hear you're able to get more dancing in without Annie joining in too much. Sitting with her nearby sounds very comforting for both of you.

    Machka - Are your feet feeling better? Well done in the job progression! Yes, interesting article about exercise and dementia. As my mother and her dad both had dementia, they barely even walked. I'm not sure which came first, and they both ended up with broken hips. 😥 Great job on your weight loss as well.

    Tracey and Carol - now you've got me hungry for Lasagna.

    Rita - hope your allergies are better. What a nuisance!

    Margaret - what a neat way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I'm envious of your nearby art museum, I know I could spend hours there. Nice response about grief and grace, thank you for sharing. 😊

    New little grocery store nearby - Yesterday morning I checked out that new little grocery store down the road. He just opened and has plans to carry fresh produce and meats, which would be great and save me a trip to the big city. Even if his prices are a little higher, since it takes much less gas to get there I figure it's a break-even. I bought some raw jersey milk. Substantial cream top. I have some Kefir starter grains that call for unpasteurized milk so plan to give this a try. When we had the farm, we often had ewes with tremendous milk production - I wasn't into cheese making but would milk them out and had some great "coffee creamer."

    Type O blood - who knew? A reel just came up on FB with some guy I'd never heard of proclaiming if a person has Type O blood like me, they need to minimize eating dairy and legumes like Kidney beans and lentils. Well, that's a large part of my protein intake! C'est la vie. Can't believe everything these random people broadcast. But I guess there are also some studies that indicate people with Type O blood have a slight protective benefit against contracting or experiencing severe symptoms from Covid.

    Tracey - No, I was just hoping there would be more quilting fabrics than there were, because they included quite a few sewing classes for sewists at the fiber festival - but only a very few of the vendors dealt with fabric at all, it was mostly variations on the expensive yarn thing. I learned a LOT, and will probably incorporate some of the things I can make with crochet into the purses. On the turned crochet hook kits, I sent you a message on FB.

    Re - Thank you for the super-power look at ADHD. Mixed blessing, for sure, but comes in handy on occasion. Just for you, a not-very-quick look at why my goal is "Be lighter."

    I can get way into the numbers - but I try to avoid it when I can. This is the first time in months I've sat down and looked at it, but when I was ill, the Crohn's had me trying to get in higher calorie levels (around 3000 a day) because it was running right through me. I was deeply mired in malnutrition for a while between the Crohn's, the ulcerative colitis, the anemia. Throw in 20 years of malnutrition from the gastric bypass in '05, and it was a perfect storm for a bit. Now that I'm better, my body is using the food I put in it much, much better. So I'm gaining weight, and I don't WANT to be above 160.

    To do that, I'm getting my calorie average about 50 calories below where I want to be times ten (150 pounds is my goal, so I'm at 1500 minus 50, or 1450). I unhooked my Fitbit from MFP so it wouldn't tell me how much I expended there, as I don't want to eat my calories back.

    I don't put calorie expenditure on my Fitbit for the same reason. Helps me pay attention more to averages than day-to-day, keeps me slightly less obsessed with the process. At my current 161 pounds (weigh-in is Monday), that means I'm shooting for a calorie deficit of 160 per day - and at 3500 calories per pound, it should have me averaging about 1 pound lost every three weeks or so.

    For those of you mathletes who can't make the numbers add up when you get down further and realize I'm burning quite a bit more than than just 160 above my calorie limit, all I can tell you is that I build in the assumption that the calorie burn is off by about 33% for me, specifically. I don't know why, but suspect that it has to do with the inability of bio-sciences to actually accommodate for the individual. Fitbits aren't perfect, but they're really good when you just look at them for "differences," as I talk about below. I know I probably AM burning more calories by adding another minute to my daily movement, but whether it's the amount they say is debatable.

    In my experience 1450 is a LOT of calories, so it's very sustainable. Anything less and I start getting verrrrry cranky. And like you, other than my coffee, I'm mostly eating between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Naturally, not pushing it. If I'm hungry earlier than 11, then I eat.

    Every bit of movement, of course, makes weight drop faster, so if I want two pounds off a month, I need to make sure to get that daily exercise in. Fitbit sez my calorie burn in January (with 24 days of 11-minutes of exercise) averaged 1786 a day. In February, I drove it up to 1900 with exercising 27 days for 12 minutes a day. I'm at average 1925 a day so far for March, trying to keep that, and push it up by pushing my exercise (elliptical or chair) up 1 minute a day, eventually getting to a 2000 average burn a day. That will be where I maintain - or at least, that's the plan.

    And for those who know me well on here, THIS is why I don't drive too far into this whole number-palooza most of the time, because I can become consumed with the numbers. This is the first time I've actually checked my calorie burn this YEAR, and I'm pleased at the progress. Still plan to keep it at very sparse attention, just doing what I do that I know works. In April, though, I'll move to 14 minutes average exercise a day, May will be 15 minutes, and in June, 16 minutes.

    That SHOULD be where I'm able to coast. I've tracked calories in Fitbit for a week now, plan to keep doing that for March - and try not to let it make me TOO crazy. Just paying more attention to what's going in my mouth, measuring again, stopping before I eat that 5th cracker.

    Carol - I hope the work on your eyes does amazing things for your vision, and is quick and painless. Oh! I see absolutely beautiful dresses in every size and style at my local thrift stores - I often look at them, contemplating beaded cloth for my purses, but they do put premium (for a thrift store) prices on them, like $30 or $40. Might be worth a look. Look at them closely, though, there may be a stain or something else wrong, like missing beads, etc.

    Allie - You'll get in a routine soon, you just have to keep focusing on what YOU need. Are your energy levels beginning to rise? I thought it might be part of why you were so tired all the time.

    Heather - My stars, your son is an amazing baker. Has he got a touch of the ADHD as well? Just a thought, he's good at so many things.

    Corey and I dodged a couple of bullets weatherwise in our trip. There was a wildfire because of the dry, high winds here, just ten miles north of our house, and tornadoes just north of our hotel, as we were nearly to the Missouri border in Eureka Springs. We were so lucky. Guess a lot of people are still getting hit.

    I have written FAR more than I meant to, time to run down and snag a couple things that we need until Corey does a grocery run tomorrow.

    @Allie, would you mind my telling my Nephew about your experience with the kidney transplant? He is about 47 years old and his kidneys have failed. He is on dialysis 3X a week and on the donation list. I think your experience will help his outlook. I don’t remember how long you were on the list before you got your. Kidney, about 2 years??

    Sitting here with my nebulizer mask on. I’m not sure which I like best, mask or mouth piece, any one have experience with both here? And what is your preference. I had to start the breather before I typed this as I was wheezing and coughing too much. Sheesh! That January illness ruined my lungs more than I thought. I hope when I get a new doctor this week, she/he can up the meds for the asthma and get to the root of this mess!

    My poor Brownie is retaining water and from her stomach to her back legs are all swollen. I can’t bring myself to take her to the vet one last time. She is suffering and I need to think about her rather than me.

    Lisa - my son is diagnosed ADHD and is on medication. My elder son is on the autistic spectrum. Max is ADHD and on the spectrum, and an academic genius! Bea is ADHD as well. We call it a 'neurospicy' family.

    I decided to take advantage of my clean hair and made up face by going out to M&S for interesting food. John decided he would accompany me. It was a beautiful sunny day, with the pavement restaurants all crowded. I had the great idea of walking down to the v expensive !!! handmade chocolate shop first, to get some chocolates for DDIL's birthday in a week and a half. We found all sorts of lovely goodies at M&S, so were very pleased with ourselves, and also bought daffodils. What a cheering day in the sunshine! 😎

    I truly don't get too caught up in what I am eating, though when I am really paying attention, I try to eat as clean and healthy as I can. Its pretty amazing how your body will reject foods (not hold onto it very long) if its not what I needs. Like if I fast then have a bowl of soup, it pretty much just goes thru me within 20 mins. So I try to give my body things to digest that makes it happy. Pickled things like beets, and asparagus seem good openers after fasting. Also nuts, and cheese. So I just nibble on something as I am fixing my meal for the day. I know seriously diet brain can take hold. I don't practice food restriction, because if I don't pay attention my intermittent fasting can morph into a low calorie diet, which isn't my goal. There is also a fine line between eating and not listening to my body when it tells me I am satiated. Leaving food is not in my wheelhouse, but I am trying!😁

    Rebecca - I am not a fan of Jello, either - but the colorful bowls of Jello squares mixed with whipped cream were a staple when I was a child, also. I know you probably already know it, but when you feel hungry you should try to drink some liquid - preferably non-caloric liquid. About half the time, your brain registers thirst as hunger. I do a sort of modified intermittent fast… I always have, naturally, tended to eat all my actual food in the afternoon and evening - the only exception and why I am technically not IF - I have a coffee latte every day - made with protein shake and half and half. The thing is less than 300 calories - but, I seldom get truly hungry until late afternoon - the only time I eat prior to about 4p is when I am stress eating! I currently have some zero sugar sausage sticks in my cubby at work for that very thing. RE in TX

    I drink a lot of black coffee, a natural calming agent for my belly if its feeling hungry.🙃😁. Then Pellegrino water. Have you ever read any of Gin Stephen's Intermittent fasting books? Her books are like the Bibles of the IF community👍🏼. She is very strict about what is allowed within the fasting times though. So many things can trigger the hormones that regulate your hunger. Our bodies are so amazing in that respect! Like a walking lab of science awesomeness!

    Lasagna building is always fun though! I make my sauce using meatballs that are spicy. They are raw and frozen, so I let them thaw, then cook them up in a bit of olive oil and garlic. Then add Hunts sauce with meat, plain tomato sauce, tomato paste and a spoonful of brown sugar. Lee loves it now. He used to hate spaghetti, because he said it was just boring. Kicking it up a bit he likes it now.👍🏼 I am making the sauce this week, and making chicken fried cube steak and cheese bread (which is just New York brand Texas toast).

    I look at grief, heartache, or any other intense emotional thing as a sort of gift. We can't choose of grievances, our heartaches, we have to accept them all. And in the center of all those feelings is the love. The experience is the gift. Each one transporting us to where we need to be.

    💓 Allie When I had spine surgery the aftercare protocol included clean towels every day and clean sheets every other day and i wasn't allowed to do the laundry so I absolutely needed someone to do laundry. There are so many friends you do things for. Can any of them come do your laundry for you? You've been the giver for so long. It's time for you to be the receiver.

    ❤️ Rosemarie I kept several of my husband's shirts and have been wearing them every day. Jake's daughter took some of his shirts and sweaters and had his sweaters made into a blanket. Jake's son sent me a photo of himself wearing one of his dad's hats.

    😀 Tracey Yes, sending a package to Canada was staggeringly expensive but it was a one time thing and I know how thrilled the recipient will be when the package arrives.

    😀 Lanette Your explanation of what it takes to produce that expensive wool was perfect. When we bought our five acres in the country in 1999, I considered raising animals and spinning wool into yarn. Fortunately I gathered information at the county fair and concluded that I didn't want to do that much work. Later I concluded that I didn't have sufficient appreciation of the expensive. yarn.

    🙃😬 Clutter Clearing Jake and I had prided ourselves on all the clutter clearing we've done since my mother died in 1991. We moved a ton of her stuff to storage and gradually sorted and discarded for the next ten years. We moved several times and discarded and sorted some more, so by now we were down to the most important, most precious, and most difficult to discard.

    Barbie- yes they could..i need to get some groceries, and a couple of bottles of water.Dan will take out the garbage for me.and maybe throw a load of laundry in..I have one set of sheets that are on the bed now..and my bedroom is kind of cluttered so trying to make the bed with new sheets could be a chore.

    Guess who is 6 months old today?

    And that was kinda the point in laying it all out like that, my dear. Not embarrassing at all. My own brain implodes if I push it that far very often. One of the many ways I've learned that, "Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD." Which applies to much more than just how we think about food!

    But to keep it short, at 1450 calories a day, eating between 11 and 8, I've proved to myself that I lose a pound a month. If I want to lose more than that, I have to either eat less or exercise more. But when I slap numbers on it, my brain cycles out into what was in that spoiler… so I just use "Be lighter" as my goal most of the time.

    Did a pilates DVD (one of the new ones I got down here) but you need a certain piece of equipment and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what I can substitute so I’ll probably redonate those DVD’s. Then I did a yoga DVD. Then walked to Wynn Dixie (only1-1/2 miles each way, no big deal). Then laid out by the pool, nowhere. Tomorrow supposed to go walking with a friend

    Re – how wonderful that you’re down 10 pounds! Any secrets as to how you did this? How exciting that you’re getting the bedroom redone

    M – belts can be your friend...lol

    Carol – I’m nota fan of formal gowns, especially since you wear them only once. Maybe you an find one at a thrift store and then just have to have some alterations made to it?

    Re – the only other ceramics place I know of near me is quite expensive and they don’t let you bring in your own bisque. I don’t know what they’re going to do, will the other girl work 5 days/week? Honestly, I doubt it. I never did think she was carrying her weight. She only wanted to work the days/times SHE wanted to work, no thought as to what the people who came there would like. And I don’t think she knows much about pouring, etc. Maybe I will be able to paint with the other gals and just take it there to be fired. I guess we shall see what the future will bring. You know, D (who passed) wasn’t an alcoholic, but he did enjoy his beer. I understand he was in quite a lot of pain so you’re right, he’s in a better painless place now

    Rita – I’m so sorry about Brownie. You’ll do the right thing, I know it

    Took my last antibiotic today…..yeaaaaa what a pain they were.

    Hi All;

    I am a little bummed out, because the first contractor who was supposed to come and bid the job couldn't come because his plumber flaked out. This does not bode well… but, I have rescheduled for next Saturday.

    Between now and then, I have three other contractors scheduled, and two more on Sunday. Is contractors not working on Saturday a thing? Or are all the local contractors here Seventh Day Adventists? I have two separate companies coming on Sunday because they don't work on Saturdays. No skin off my nose - just curious.

    So, I am vacuuming the dust out of the windowsills and generally trying to find someplace to put the last of the "stuff" that was in the closet.

    Of course, the only reason I have time to be here, now, is that he didn't come… so, silver lining.

    Lanette - I am with you on Silliness, Shenanigans and Misbehavior!

    Lisa - That's a lot of math. I just sort of stumble around and do what works - which is, always, a calorie deficit - until it stops working - then I try something else. How much of a deficit is the only question. I have changed my calories to 1500 for now. That will get me to the vicinity of the magical 150 pounds, eventually - and hopefully after a year or so at the same calories - I will be in the habit of how to eat at that level. I think that I am going to have to find a few minutes for some kind of exercise, though - if only to keep all the muscles and joints working. Once the house project is done, I should have a little more free time - however, I suspect I wont' have any money left… LOL.

    Michelle - it helps if you're starting at 255 - its SUPER easy to eat at a calorie deficit… plus I am eating low carb. Not crazy low carb - but leaning into the protein and avoiding bread, rice and potatoes, entirely. You know, all the really good stuff… LOL For me, carbs are like crack. If I avoid them, it's much better for me. I hope you can keep some of the fun with the ceramics… I used to go to a beading group once a week and it was a great deal of fun. That was the whole point. Who knows, though - maybe the other gal will step up.

    Rebecca - I am not a hardcore IF person. If I drank my coffee black, maybe I could be - but, I like it creamy and sweet…. so, protein shake it is. But, I have never been a breakfast person… so afternoon/evening is when I eat. Since I am staying in Ketosis most all the time, anyway with the low carb - it's all good - at least so far. If I find myself in a plateau situation, I may rethink that - but, I am trying to make this resumed journey as painless as possible… the less pain, the more likely I am to keep doing it.

    Allie - that grandbaby is beautiful! Now go take a nap!
