Fell off the challenge bandwagon in round 256, managed to keep losing weight until June 12th when I hit 155.9 (70.7 kg). I fell off the weight loss wagon shortly after. Decided to start back up the day before Round 278 started.
SW Rnd 290: 144 (65.3 kg)
3/12- 144.1 (65.4 kg)
3/13- 144.7 (65.6 kg)
3/14- 144.2 (65.4 kg)
3/15- 142.6 (64.7 kg) I've used being tired and feeling worn down as an excuse to slip on my tracking (not tracking as I go) as well as missing the first three days of this round. I had two parties I attended today and went about 1050 calories over goal and about 650 over maintenance once I totalled everything up. I need to turn this ship around. Taking a few quiet minutes to post and read everyone else's posts is important. I think I do better when I'm part of a community of people supporting each other, all with their own successes, struggles, strategies and goals. Thank you all for being that community.
3/16- 144 (65.3 kg) 8 hours of shopping for a cheap dress for mom prom with a friend. I found a $9 dress, but man am I worn out. Haven't shopped like that in years.
3/17- 145.6 (66 kg) Delayed reaction to my overeating earlier this week? That's okay. Today was right on track. Onwards!
3/18- 145.2 (65.9 kg) A slow descent. We're having a team lunch tomorrow so I'm already planning on soup for dinner since it can be filling and low calorie.
3/19- 145.1 (65.8 kg) Yummy potato soup for dinner. I'm very sad that our Costco has quit carrying it for the season. I missed my opportunity to grab more. I also got new glasses yesterday after work and even though it was a slight prescription adjustment, it's been enough of a change to make the ground tilt slightly and give me headaches and minor nausea. Luckily 28 hours later, the worst seems to be over.
3/20- 144.7 (65.6 kg) Another day on track. One more day in the challenge. I hope I end closer to where I started, but no matter the outcome of tomorrow's weigh in, I'll keep at it in the next round.

Starting this round on a mini break in Rome, Thanks @quiltingjaine for keeping us going.
SW 289 141.8
3/12 DNW - a hectic 1st full day in Rome, a brisk walk across to Vatican City, a tour of St. Peter's Basilica including a climb up 550 steps to the top of the dome. In the afternoon we visited the Cistern Chapel & Vatican museums. A mind blowing day with the grandeur & amazing paintings. A tiring but satisfying 15.5 miles, 36.5K steps.
3/13 DNW - 9.76 miles walked, a less hectic day, the Colosseum in the morning followed by a rainy afternoon on & around Palatino Hill.
3/14 DNW - a very leisurely 14.56 miles walked yesterday, taking in The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Victor Emmanuel monument, S. Pietro in Vincoli, Piazza Navona, Santa Maria Maggiore, Circus Maximus, a stroll along the river and the last gaze at the Colosseum. An amazing last day. No gelato; it was not warm enough! But luckily it stayed dry 😁.
3/15 140.4 - (trend 141) wow! never returned from a holiday with a loss ever before!! Now to keep it.
3/16 139.8 – (trend 140.9) thrilled at that! Hoping yesterdays was not a false low, but amazed to go down again, gives me a real buzz!! 7.31 miles walked.
3/17 139.2 – (trend 140.6) 5.08 miles walked or should I say some was jogged next to little DGSs riding their bikes.
3/18 140 – (trend 140.6) guessing just a normal fluctuation as have stuck to CICO since my return from Rome. 8.82 miles walked.
3/19 140.4 – (trend 140.6) 8.55 miles walked.
3/20 142.4 – (trend 140.8) no structured walking, childminding youngest little DGD. Disappointed with myself, wasted the success I had on holiday, therefore a gain of 0.4. A new round I’ll just start again ☹.
3/21 141.4 – (trend 140.9) 7.41 miles walked. Seems I’ve had a reprieve, with the “extra” day I’ve actually managed a loss of 0.4 (phew!) 😊.
👍👍This is NOT A DIET. It’s a LIFESTYLE

3/16 132.0 this morning. Not bad considering I haven’t moved for almost a month. The scale does not reflect how sluggish I feel. Keeping a routine is vitally important to mind, body, soul and I re-commit 100% to getting back to all that nourishes me. Benefits far outweigh the alternative. Today = 🚶♀️10K & 💓Z2 60 min.
3/17 131.6 mind, body, soul - moving in right direction I compare the last 5-6 weeks to “exams“ window while many of us were in college… The world stops (it did for me)… Strange, strange sleep, eating patterns strange everything. The fight is not over yet. We’re working on one more appeal, but I am focused on making sure I take care of myself each day. I’ve made some nice friends during this process and strengthened several- a great thing! I was able to make macro /🥩goal as well as 10k 🚶♀️💦 yesterday. I’m looking forward to another balanced, ENGAGED day. NSV: I was able to track my food each day! I guess the major reason why I didn’t fall off the rails… Nutrition was always on my mind. And I’m now tracking my daily habits again. It’s good to be back. BTW: I have not figured out this new formatting situation and not sure how I will “present” my journey… I need more time to do that.🏋️♀️still on back burner (the most important) but to implement this week. Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone!🍀🍀🍀
3/18 Posting late today - I was in a rush leaving the house. Yesterday was a solid day and so was today!
🙆♀️🚶♀️💓🎾🏆still 🚫🏋️♀️. promising ME to get that done this week for sure and then to restart that habit.
3/19 not enough 🥩, 1425 cals. 🎾 2 hrs. Slept well. Getting back in groove.
Filed appeal yesterday. Hearing isn’t until May 20 so we have a breather. I’ve learned TO MUCH about city politics / backdoor deals. On one hand, we knew this going in, but on the other, this is our town we’re trying to save, we have to do everything possible. Quite proud of the work we’ve done.
Food, Health? I completely blew off almost everything that I thought had become a “healthy habit” during this time. I was a walking zombie. While I didn’t over- indulge, I ate foods that did not agree with me (no planning) and I felt “off” the entire time. Let me walk that back… Not that long ago, I would’ve had a cocktail every now and then and certainly weekends, after working hard, etc. but not at all this past month… didn’t even think about it! Now that is a great NSV! The difference between how I felt 2/5-3/14 vs my routine: eating whole food/ walking/exercising/ 🙏quiet time / journaling/ … There’s just no comparison. I was in willful disobedience - I felt incapable of shifting gears and even giving one hour to myself. I’m hoping I can learn from this. It felt like I was in “exams” … Crunch time, do or die, some sort of sprint that everything else you just forget about. Self- created stress. This was quite a familiar zone that I was always in throughout my career… When you’re in it, you don’t realize what you’re doing. You’re just focused on the goal. The deadline.
Would, I do it over again? Yes. But I wish I would’ve had a buddy that would’ve grabbed me & said, “STOP, Lets go for a walk. …” STOP, plan your meals…. DH was very supportive of the work that I had to get done… But didn’t “catch” that I wasn’t taking care of myself. He was used to this mode as well… Anyway…
I share this story because I was in some sort of an addiction… I told myself I couldn’t shift gears… Perhaps someone out there struggling with same. But I really wasn’t helpless at all… I simply fell back to default mode - what was comfortable instead of consciously deploying what I had learned. I’m never far away from old habits.
I scheduled a 90 minute massage today after 🎾 and I’m looking forward to a long walk as well. ✅Food logged and planned.
3/20 Solid day. Grocery today. Let’s see what looks good 🍀😎
3/21. Up at 3:30 AM… Did not weigh #ENGAGED
Did not get my steps in yesterday (7k) too many errands. Chicken marsala last night (minus flour) one chicken breast. Looking forward to next round and a fresh, new “project” - ME!

Just Give Me 10 Days – Round 290
March 12 – 21, 2025
SW: 135.6
3/12 – 135.6 Well I did not finish round 289 with the number that I wanted, though I saw it for two days prior. Then I did my mini binge (worthy ½ lb max) with lots of salt. Was hoping to come down quickly yesterday, but last night was out to eat. Calories (according to my tracking) were excellent. I am hoping/thinking I am still fighting with sodium. Today’s new variable will be that I am back to the gym and next session with the trainer. Was unable to find any of that “me” time during our family time together, but totally worth the trade off. My hope for this round is to clear the sodium, keep calories on track, be consistent with exercise, and I am hoping to not only get back to the 134.6, but to pass it and MAYBE see a “3” instead of that “4”. Let’s see.
3/13 – 135.0 Five mile walk, and hour with personal trainer. I discussed with her how I think I am jumping in too quickly and risking injury, based on all the pains I am having. At the end, we shortened our time to do stretching. Wow! We discovered I have some real tightness issues. Interestingly, when I got home, some of those pains were gone. The stretching is key. Feeling some aches return this morning, so I likely should try some stretching today.
3/14 – 134.6 Yay! Back to my number from the 10th and 11th. Now to continue. I was good with diary yesterday, but chose to skip my morning walk (still have not gotten condo back together since guests) and was not a gym day. Today, I hope/plan to accomplish both. Hubby has been taken kite fishing for sailfish today, THEN we are heading to hear a band in the evening. Probably means I am facing a cocktail (will stick to my gin and tonic, or a white wine), and food (likely stick with my seared tuna tataki safety net). Need to keep this in mind for the first part of the day.
3/15 – 134.4 Made it through the day yesterday! Walk got altered and ended up only 4 miles, but it was a fun walk. Got home and was to go to the gym, but decided to deal with cancelation of utilities on my mother’s property that is being sold on Tuesday. Glad I did as it was more time consuming than I expected and really had to happen before the weekend. I pretracked my evening, and used my calories accordingly during the day. IN the evening, my gin and tonic became an on-the-rocks margarita, which I only drank half due to its size. I had my tuna. Appetizers somehow got ordered for the table. I ate two shrimp and one cheese curd to be social. Seems to have worked out! Today has the potential for being normal!
3/16 – 134.2 A bit of a gift. I got somewhat off track last evening after dinner, and I anticipated a .2 or .4 up. But I did accumulate more steps than usual (according to my apple devices), so maybe it was an even trade. Skipping my morning walk today in order to free up equivalent time to get to the gym. Doing both costs me about 3.5 hours that day, and that is not working out.
3/17 – 134.2 skipped the walk but did the gym, 10 min warm up on the threadmill followed by an hour with equipment. Diet was good but slightly over.
3/18 – 134.0 I survived St. Patrick’s day. Corned beef, cabbage and potatoes!
3/19 – 133.4 Not sure it this will manage to get posted on the right day. Internet and cable are down due to the fires at the top of the Florida keys. Yesterday, I skipped the walk, but had a session with the trainer. Watched my tracking. Little higher than I target (like 1600 cal), but I was solidly hungry. It was not a craving. Last two days are going to be tricky. Today is the second of our bi-weekly 2 hour cocktails and food by the pool. I should be able to handle it ok. Then tomorrow night (perfect timing right), we have a 5 course wine dinner than we signed up for back in January. Why does it have to be the last night of the round? Argh!!
3/20 – 133.4 Made it through the cocktail hour event. Did not eat perfectly, and stopped tracking and was certainly somewhat over my target calories. Yesterday was just 5 mile walk (3 laps). Today will be just 2 laps and hope to do some at-home exercises (an idea to play around with). Tomorrow will be the gym again. Oh, did I tell you at my last gym day, something popped in my right side ribs. So I am sorting that out. The related pain limited which exercises were possible for the remainder of the session.
3/21 – 134.0 Close enough. Handled that dinner the best that I could. But even 5 small portions of wine, and 5 courses of food are more than I would be trying to have for dinner these days. That said, it was a terrific time. The food was good, wine tasteings fun, and we enjoyed the conversations. Skipping walking this morning as I will do the gym and have some other morning obligations to deal with.End of Round 290 count down: 177 days until the wedding, 40 days until dress shopping

3/11/25 : 229.8 SW a day before.
3/12: 229.4
Dropped some weight even with some little failures along the way yesterday. I do remember specifically making some wise decisions when faced with a dilemma. What was the dilemma? (A.) Do I want to do that because I LOVE it and it would make me feel good right now from head to toe? Or (B.) Do I say no to it so I will feel better later from head to toe in a much better way?Just think what I (we) could do with FULL discipline for delayed gratification. It’s hard.
3/13: 228.8
Cautiously optimistic. I was better about choosing fruit and veggies yesterday.I just saw the email preview of today’s Rotary menu. Chicken Alfredo and bread sticks. Give me a break! Right now I am pre-logging the lettuce salad ONLY with no pasta and no dessert.
3/14: 229.4
I avoided the Alfredo at Rotary! And they had steamed broccoli and cauliflower. Had a couple snaccidents at home, but no biggies. The weather is so fantastic I took a 16+ mile bike ride. I am surprised how good the workout is on an eBike. No matter how much help I get, I can still push it til it hurts. Wind and hills still make a difference. I make a big sail in the wind. HA!Today’s challenge will be supper tonight. DW’s cousin coming for the weekend, not so much to see us but to have a place to stay while visiting her dad in the nursing home. (their farmstead is sold.) She is “repaying” us by taking us out for dinner tonight. Must. Avoid. The. French. Fries!
3/15: 230.4
Even though this is a bump up, I consider yesterday a victory overall. I rode 20+ miles on bike and took a bit of a strenuous hike later with DS and DGS in the woods. (we were kind lost for a while…exciting) The gain was because of eating. DS brought a between-meal snack to the hike and the restaurant last night had a special. Smoked Corned Beef and Cabbage. Had to try it.3/16: 228.6
I need to kiss the “3” goodbye as my 2nd number. It is too depressing to see it popping up all the time. I am sure it will rear its ugly head for a while, but I am aiming for the “3” becoming a “1.” (then a zero, if I may be so bold?)3/17: 227.8
Church all morning + funeral all afternoon = no real movement. So, I am happy for the drop. Probably getting benefits from all the moving I did last week with the warm weather.NSV, I am starting to chip away at some mid section flab. DW says my face is showing signs of progress too. I will use this to motivate me to greater things.
3/18: 228.8
I am not unhappy with this due to yesterday's logs. If I don’t strap it down today it could get away from me.3/19: 228.0
Good day yesterday. +17 miles on the bike and I ate reasonably. Going to be wet today. Loved watching the astronaut splashdown yesterday, on the predicted minute! This is the only time when perfectionism is a good thing.3/20: 227.8
What a bad day for exercise. And food was a tad over. That’s why I like the number this morning.Tornado warnings yesterday, We had to turn around from our trip to Dr. for DW to try to get to the bottom of her laryngitis. Rescheduled for next week.
I sat like a zombie (upstairs) watching the local weather people parse the red and green colors on the screen as the storms rolled through. “looks like we have some rotation right here,” and “I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Tornado Warning issued there.” DW was at here post downstairs. She is very obedient to the weatherman. I have to be on the lookout like every other guy in the neighborhood.
Snow on the ground this morning. Thus continues the frustrating weather in Illinois.
3/21: 228.8
I am very happy with today’s number and the whole round frankly. I dropped one pound from the start and am more than a pound lower on the ten-day average. Looking forward to chipping away at some more next round.Yesterday I avoided the very good looking dessert at Rotary. Everyone at my table but me took it. That was an NSV!
On a final note, my DGS has a new pet. It is a Leopard Gecko. To each his own. (actually I think DS thought it would be cool.) I have many problems with it, but Papa is keeping his mouth shut. I watched a video on how to care for it. One problem with it is you need to have live insects on hand for its food. And, they recommend that you feed the live insects leafy green vegetables so they are nutritious for the lizard. DGS doesn’t even get leafy green vegetables at home as far as I know. HA! (insert serenity prayer here.)

@_JeffreyD_ The set menu dinners are fun. Not only is there no thinking involved, it encourages me to try something I would not otherwise. In a traditional dining situation, I would not order a brodetto, an artichoke bottom, or lamb. All were delicious. Even DH was whining when he saw the menu and stated he was not looking forward to the first two items. As we were sitting there dining on the Brodetto, his comment was "this is delicious". He enjoyed every item. It's good to broaden one's palate from time to time. <3

03/19-195.0- (Trend Weight: 194.5) I
03/20-195.2- (Trend Weight: 194.6) I had a horrible eating day yesterday with all bad choices. I’m surprised the weight did not go up more. I’ll have to watch the scale the next few days to see if it catches up. I’m not trying to make excuses, it’s in the science. This Type 2 diabetes is kicking my butt lately. The hunger and the cravings (very common symptoms) are through the roof. I am quite sure that the better I get my glucose under control, the better those symptoms will be. To lose weight, those symptoms have GOT TO improve but it seems impossible. Like I’m running in circles chasing my own tail. First step, get the glucose numbers down and everything else will become normal struggles with possibilities! I know how this works. I’ve got to get back in the game and play to win!
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀03/21-194.2- (Trend Weight: 194.5) Wow! What a WILD RIDE this round has been! I’m ending up down nearly ½ lb for the round after an overnight drop. I hope to be more consistent next round. Spring break started today at DGS school so no super early wake-up was necessary and I was able to weigh at my normal time to finish out the round. See you tomorrow in the next one. Great job everyone for showing up and continuing to work toward your goals!
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

@Chapter_3 : I share this story because I was in some sort of an addiction… I told myself I couldn’t shift gears… Perhaps someone out there struggling with same. But I really wasn’t helpless at all… I simply fell back to default mode - what was comfortable instead of consciously deploying what I had learned. I’m never far away from old habits.
Wow, does this resonate with my- I got cocky and here I am, 3 months since the holidays and stuck in a self-defeating cycle. Work definitely contributes; injuries also. But at the bottom of it all is just rebellion against doing "the right thing", not unlike my teenage self. I did revert, I need to get a grip.
Round 291 is all potential.

@quiltingjaine It is so very interesting to see how our diets evolved during marriage. I think DH has changed more than me. But we have mostly converged.
@deepwoodslady So sorry for your most recent struggles with diabetes!
@judefit1 The food was great and the portions small enough that I was not "stuffed" (plus I gave DH some of my pasta and lamb)

Fell off the challenge bandwagon in round 256, managed to keep losing weight until June 12th when I hit 155.9 (70.7 kg). I fell off the weight loss wagon shortly after. Decided to start back up the day before Round 278 started.

That's okay.Today was right on track.
3/21- 143.3 (65 kg) Ending this round .7 of a pound (.3 kg) down. I'm quite happy with this. See everyone in the next round!

3/20-147-Ive been caring for a friend with debilitating anxiety and we are almost in the clear with the meds. Walking helps her and it gets us outside.
3/21-147-Walked 5 miles trying to get my friend to feel better. Her meds work half of the time to bring her out of the funk. In two weeks it should be working full force.
