Kudos to myself

53 yo and I’ve never actually worked out at anytime in my life. I stayed active though, kick boxing all through my 20’s, climbing miles of stairs throughout by 30’s, doing nothing but traveling, being a foodie, and loving craft beer through my 40’s and weighing at my max 240#! 46yo husband died from cancer, in 7 months I lost 100#s. I sale our home of 25 years and relocate. I gain back 90# just as fast I lost it. I’m still struggling. I want to lose 25-30#s. I got a personal trainer January 2025. I’m down 7#s I feel physically strong, I look good (with clothes on), everyday I’m working at building a habit of gym after work. That’s my mini goal; gym after work and be in bed by 10pm (instead of 1 am). I have no support system; so yes, I am proud of myself for the first time in a long time. Sorry this is so long….

Hello, welcome . . . and big congratulations on your progress so far. Commitment is key. You've found it and acted on it. Good show!

As a cancer widow myself - even though it's quite distant in the rear-view mirror in my case - I understand how dislocating psychologically that can be. It hits each of us differently, so I'm not pretending to know exactly how you feel or felt, but I empathize and do understand that no matter our individual reactions, it's a huge impact.

Myself, I finally got active after my own cancer treatment in my late 40s, a couple of years after my husband's death, but I didn't commit to weight loss until around a dozen years later, when I finally had to admit to myself that in my case, pretty good fitness wasn't the total path to overall good health, and that it was time to lose to a healthy weight. That was almost 10 years ago, and I've been at a healthy weight for nearly 9 years since then. It's been a major quality of life improvement for me - actually, both improved fitness and healthy weight were big improvements, and the combination was gangbusters. I hope you'll find the same.

    Wishing you huge success!
