Reduce the number of flags to hide spam

I was on the boards when the flag system for spam was implemented and it worked great - 5 flags, spam hidden. But in those days there were a LOT more people using the forums. These days, it is much, much quieter and there don't really appear to be any moderators anymore, and spam is sitting there for hours and hours with 2-3 spam flags.

Is it time to reduce the flags from 5 to 3 for hiding? Or maybe appoint a moderator or 2? I seem to remember there used to be users who's only admin power was to be 'super-flaggers' where when they flagged a post, it disappeared and didn't need the 5.

    There are still spam moderators, who can spam-flag a post and give it 5 spam-votes with one flag. There is a list of them in the News and Announcements section in the "Meet Our Community Team" thread. From glancing at the list, I know of at least 3 on the list who are still routinely active, and it's possible that all are.

    I'm not arguing against your idea to decrease the number of spam-flags it takes to hide a post when I say that, just letting you know that spam mods still exist. You might even know some of them. 😉

    If there's something really egregious, I think the MFP Community staff and at least some of the spam mods pay attention to complaints posted in this thread here:

    Other than that, spam mods are just regular users who can give extra flags when they happen to see a spammy post. Not everyone is online all the time, there aren't any automagic notifications spam mods get, etc.
