    Hi Skippy.
I use to train for triathlons and never lost much weight or kept it off until 2 years ago. I was really ready for a long term solution to weight loss. I met with a dietitian at first once a week for a month, then every other week for a month and now once a month. I also met with an eating disorder therapist who I still see occasionally and kept a food log using MFP . The goals they set up were 2 lbs a week for first month and then 1 lb a week for a year and now 1 lb a month as I made gradual changes to my diet. This is to avoid stimulating the body from thinking it is in starvation mode. Little changes or goals every week and maintaining them. Such as adding more water daily into diet as it helps metabolize fat ( water, herbal decaf teas and sparkling waters). Deleting all artificial sugars from diet. 2 fruits a day ( at least). Adding nuts and seeds to snacks. Vegan protein drinks and smoothies to up my protein intake. Servings of beans at least once a day. Veggie soups or salads frequently for meals. It was very gradual and not overwhelming. I looked forward each meeting to hear what she suggested. Didn’t talk that much about junk foods but more about what healthy changes to make every week. Dietician was so supportive and non judgmental. Never asked me to give up on chocolate ( my addiction) but to get all my healthy foods in daily. I lost 60 lbs the first year, 20 lbs the second year and I have 20 lbs to go. Eating disorder therapist helped me with my past and growing up with two older sisters who called me fat in HS when I was 5’5 and 128-132 lbs.

Thanks for sharing! Good for you taking the steps to make positive change. It’s not easy. I’m trying, again, to engage with MFP and track calories. I’m trying a more plant-based diet, which it sounds like your dietitian would be a fan of. I’m doing one of the “plans” within MyFitnessPal hoping for education and inspiration. Just need to stick with it! Again, thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.
