my elliptical says i burn 1400 calories an hour when i turn the resistance all the way up. i am 250 pounds soo is my machine right or at least kinda right?

    It's really hard to say. I personally don't trust all the calculators on the machines and those on line so I halve the value they give me back.

    All I can recommend is to accept the value your machine tells you and figure it out for yourself at the end of one week. If you eat just the calories you're supposed to and you burn 3500 calories in exercise then you should lose at least one pound. IF you do lose weight then you say the machine is right. If you don't lose then the machine is wrong.

    Yeah, I tend to agree. tough to know for sure girl. A heart rate monitor would be the only sure way to tell (or taking your pulse every couple of minutes, but that's a huge pain)

    I think I need to invest in those gadgets... heart monitor or whatever. I also don't trust the machines that tell me I burn like 400-500 calories per hour on my crosstrainer. :huh:
