... it really isn't possible to gain ten pounds in two days?

I was 206 (down from 241) on Friday. That evening I injured my foot and my mother moved in with me; I spent the whole weekend sleeping through painkillers, only briefly surfacing to chow down on the fast food my mom would kindly bring me. I weighed in this morning before work at 216.

I know in my brain that I didn't eat anywhere near enough to gain 10lbs of fat in two days. I had two fast food meals and a couple of sodas -- not exactly a huge calorie-fest even if it was unhealthy choices. It's sodium, combined with the fact that it's my TOM, combined with not hydrating properly since I was asleep 99% of the time, combined with not moving for a couple of days.

Isn't it? :(

Unless you ate 35,000 EXTRA calories in 2 days it may be from the meds or other factors you mentioned....

First of all your weight constantly fluctuates throughout the week. I am a scale junkie and cant help but weigh myself every morning. The tom and getting lots of sleep also has something to do with water weiht gain too. It could be that your body hasn't had the fast food in a while and is holding on to those calories as fat storage. OUr bodies need to make insulin to break down that kind of food and that turns it into fat sometimes if it thinks it might need it later. I wouldn't get too down about it but just get back on the horse, and take this day as a start over. In the first few weeks/month of changing your lifestyle and metabolism the body is still going through an adjustment period. I am sure that if you get back to counting your calories and getting some activity in then next weeks weigh in will be lower. Drink lots of water so you can flush that bad food out. It wont hurt. Stay positive, our bodies didn't get this way overnight so we wont lose it that way too.

i'm sure it's *possible*... but I don't think that *you* did. Most likely it's a combo of the meds and food and TOM. try drinking lots of plain water over the next few days, eat regular/healthy meals, and you should be fine.

I expect your foot is swollen. Extra fluid is retained at an injury site. I do not know the mechanism by which wounds heal but in the same way as a bruise heals so the effects of sprains are reduced by fluids taking the damaged cells (for want of a better term) away. Relax give your self at least till the swelling is down before you start to think you personally have gained.

Eating what is available when impossible to do otherwise is sensible. Over the next few days try to get back to your normal plan and do not cut back may be have more protein or at least keep to your MFP amount. A damaged body benefits from good food to repair itself.

all the best, I wish you a speedy recovery.

Don't forget, fast food = a lot of sodium, the more sodium the more water retention so do not get on them sales till you are fully better, You are doing an amazing job and lost so much weight already..... when you are back to full strength give yourself seven days of your diet before hitting those scales again. x

If your foot hurts you were also standing awkwardly on the scale which affects the reading.

Many painkillers will cause water retention too.
