Daily Fat intake

I am confused...

I have my fat goals set to the following:

Poly- 15, Mono- 20, Sat- 15, Trans- 0 for a total of 50.

Total fat is somehow set to 58.

My diary is reflecting 39 logged grams of fat (all poly, mono, sat, no trans), yet total fat says I've eaten 72grams.

Im assuming there's another kind of fat it's automatically logging for me? Could someone explain??

Think of your goals for fat subtypes as nutritional goals, just like vitamins, minerals,... whereas fat (total), carbs and protein and carbs are macros. Your macro goals are calculated based on total fat versus protein versus carbs, so the individual types of fat aren't taken into account.

Also, your fat count is not the sum of the different subtypes, total fat is a field on its own, not a calculated value.

So it sounds like you're using food database entries that are incorrect or incomplete (for example, European food labels show total fat and saturated fat, but don't show poly and mono unsaturated fat content).

Thanks so much for the feedback! It prompted me to dig a little deeper, wondering where this number was coming from considering the major sources of fat throughout my day have been lean meat, low fat cottage cheese, and almonds. Needless to say, a Premier Protein shake has 30 grams of fat. A statistic i have never looked at until now. Eye opening.

    Thanks again for the explanation!

I really recommend checking against the label, 30gr of fat sounds like a crazy amount of fat for a protein shake, it's more likely to be 3gr of fat 🙂

Definitely check every entry that you make against either the label or a reliable database like USDA Food Data Central. MFP is a crowdsourced database and there are a lot of entries that are unreliable at best and utterly hilarious at worst.

Also, I have a Fairlife shake in front of me, pretty comparable to Premier Protein and it has 30g protein, 4g carbs and a whopping 2.5g of fat for 150 calories. A shake with similar protein and 30g of fat, the calories would be closer to 400.

You are both 100% correct. Its 3 grams of fat. 🤣 I was so confused when I read 30, I thought I had just drank a carton of butter.

    Thank you so much!
