Rejoicing in Better Health

I experienced radiation for prostate cancer in the sping of 2023. I was a tad over 400 lbs at 6 foot 4. During the radiation and pre/post- treatment processes, I lost 30 lbs without paying attention. I got Covid for the first time in early December, 2023. It really affected my digestive system. I was constantly ill eating my regular diet of fast foods, fried everything, cakes and cookies, and late night eating. I could keep none of my comfort foods down. By the end of January 2024, I had lost another 40 lbs. Again, without paying attention.

I decided to pay attention and joined Weight Watchers (for the umpteenth time!) on January 29, 2024. I did really well. I began to walk daily, increasing my daily steps from 3,000 to 9,000. I stopped eating meat and started eating brussel sprouts and more vegetables. I visited my doctors regularly, waiting for him to tell me I had a terminal illness that was causing the weight loss. He never did.

On the morning of my 68th birthday this month, I stepped on the scale for my weekly weigh-in. 238 lbs for a total loss of over 160 lbs since the spring of 2023. I lost over 100 lbs on WW alone. I had already decided that this b-day weight would be it, and that I would begin the next phase of this unexpected yet God-given journey: maintenance.

I hope to find a community of folks with similar stories. Though I'm enjoying the new me, there have bewn many mental challenges atyached to the joy of feeling better and being joyful with how I look. I am so very thankful to God for having blessed me this way. If I can be of service to anyone here, please contact me. Perhaps something I have learned or experienced can be of use.

Many blessings! - David B. kounselor57
