Hey,

I have chosen Cheese crisps for snacks but can’t find anything in the store that says “cheese crisp”. Is this something I make and if so how do I make it?

Have you googled “cheese crisp”? It’s baked cheese until melted and then cooled to be a crisp.

    Oven - 400

Take shredded cheddar - make a thin patty about 2 inches in diameter

    Bake til melted 6-8 min

    Let cool til crispy

You can make these on a dry non stick pan too on top of the stove too. I sometimes make them with grated Parmesan to use as a garnish when cooking pasta or risotto for company to add a brittle accent to soft dishes.

I've made them in the microwave, too, using parmesan - the real cheese, not the powder in a can. Spread thin on a plate, microwave watching closely because they burn quickly once crisp.

My favourite part of anything melted cheese was always the crispy bits. The day I found out I could just make a sheet pan of nothing but crispy bits was a happy, happy day indeed.

Yeah, I've seen videos about making these at home. I've not tried this yet. But another thing I haven't tried yet, but plan to is making roasted flavored chickpeas. I think they might have suggested using paprika and/or ground cumin to flavor these as a snack.

I tend to just buy them at Trader Joe's but I wonder if making them in the air fryer would be cheaper yet still as easy.

I agonized over buying that air fryer for so long and rarely use it now!

So I did it. I bought both slices of swiss cheese and shredded Colby jack.

Just experimented on the swiss cheese. I bought a pretty small air fryer so I cut the piece of cheese into quarters and they fit perfectly.

6 minutes at 400 degrees on a disposable liner, let it cool and blotted the greasy part off when the time was up and the pieces peeled right off.

Had a quarter and it didn't kill me. 🙂

My apt totally smells like cheese now tho.

If you google “Roma Sparita cacio e pepe” and choose images you will get photos from a famous restaurant in Rome that serves their cheese and pepper pasta in a Parmesan bowl.
