Long Time Fitness Pal User with Alpha Gal
Alpha Gal can be a very restrictive diet depending upon the severity and uniqueness of your body. For me it means no mammal (beef, pork, 4 legged and gives live birth animals), or byproducts (milk, cheese, gelatin, regular sugar, pharmaceuticals, vitamins, leather shoes, and so on. I also have a gluten intolerance. I use Fitness Pal to monitor my nutrients when I sense a deficiency or imbalance somewhere. It's really hard to hit the 1200 calories per day on a diet of chicken, turkey, emu, fish/shellfish, vegetables, fruit, turbinado sugar and gluten free pasta, bread and flours. I am 72, was diagnosed with AG in 2015 and after figuring it all out, I am the healthiest I have been in my entire life. I have lost over 50 lbs and gradually losing more. If any of you have recommendations or need guidance dealing with AG, I will gratefully listen and share.

I tested positive for Alpha Gal, October 2025, after 3 urgent care events involving tongue and face swelling. I am a 74 year old female, I live in St Paul, Minnesota. I believe I was bitten by the tick at our northern Minnesota cabin property. I am navigating my way through this fish, fin, and vegan lifestyle. I’m seeing a new allergist today that has an interest in Alpha Gal; there is not much knowledge of this disease in the twin city metro area.
