Unwelcome friend requests

for the past week I’ve been receiving friend requests from what appear to be fake accounts. My privacy settings have not changed. Is this a new issue for others?

It's been an issue for several years for me. I usually ignore them if I'm not sure, or just decline the request if it looks blatantly fake.

Pretty much all the friend requests I get are scammers, I delete them unless it's someone I've been talking to in the community. Sometimes I accept them and mess with them if I'm bored.

There tend to be bursts of them now and then. Some scammers use bots/scripts, or actual groups of scammy support staff, to do this sort of thing. They may sort of shotgun a bunch of fake IDs into a particular app as a focus for a while. The MyFitnessPal staff tend to analyze those, and take steps behind the scenes to thwart them to the extent possible. You can help by reporting any scammy messages you get from IDs like that to the MFP staff. You can use the Help function to report, email the support email ID support@myfitnesspal.com.

I ignore them. I have quite a collection of requests from guys in uniforms of every variety, with fluffy puppies, cute kids and trucks, buff guys, handsome older fellas, serious guys in suits giving business presentations.

It warms my heart to look at all the male pulchritude that I so crassly ignore. It’s like having a collection of those random stamps you sent a dollar off for as a kid.

You can look at them once in a while and sigh over how beautiful they all are, and then put them away til next time, knowing there’s absolutely zero value to having them.
