Check your local supermarket on what's cheap. Seriously, the answer to your question depends very much on the country you're in, possibly even the region within that country.

Sure. Eggs have protein that is more bio-available (100). And have more vitamins and minerals. AND more calories.

Cooked egg whites on the other hand are no slouch in terms of bio-availability (88). Have way fewer vitamins and minerals. BUT, most importantly, have way fewer calories per gram of protein that they provide!

Price wise the total cost of getting protein from eggs may be as cheap or cheaper than getting it from egg whites. I guess that will depend on the varieties and quantities of eggs or egg whites that you buy.

BUT, calorie wise? Egg whites run at HALF the caloric cost of whole eggs! HALF!

Lightly checked AI help enlisted to create the table below. I used single sourced non sale pricing based on recall of Safeway prices from a couple of hours ago! YMMV.

$6.99 for whole eggs, $11.99 for a 1kg carton of egg whites. In Canada large eggs are defined at the 50g mark. Technically that is a minimum so a more accurate average should be a gram or two higher. Then again there is often some waste when you crack egg shells.

As a bonus threw into the table 0% greek yogurt at a price of $6.99 per 750g (or $9.32 per kg). Bioavailability of greek yogurt was set at 95%. Some sources place it as high as 97%.

Before relying on these calculations please double check them yourself using your own numbers.

eggs, beans, tofu, cottage cheese are all pretty inexpensive. For meats, watch for sales and stock up. Chicken legs go on sale pretty cheap quite often where I live.
