Hello

Hello, my name is Perry and I am from Pinson, AL just outside of Birmingham. I began this journey to live a healthier life and lose weight around mid November 2024, when my doctor told me I had high blood pressure. I began 2025 at 320lbs. As if today I am at 302lbs. My next goal is to be below 300 by the end of May, with my ultimate goal to be down to 250 by the tend of the year. I also am looking at trying a 5k next spring.

    hi @perryman994 welcome to MFP

    I’m a fellow southerner.

Great progress, and your goals sound very reasonable.

There was a fellow on here a while back who was also over 300. He made a charity bet with coworkers that he would run the London Marathon a year later.

He worked and worked, started with short walks and runs, working his way up, and did run it, and made a lot of money for the charity. It was wonderful watching his weight loss wins and then him sharing his experience running. I wish I could think of his user name to share his threads with you. He was wildly inspiring.

have you learned about the Couch to 5k (aka C25K) app? A lot of people here aiming to run have had success with it

I couldn’t get it to work myself, for some reason, but listened to a few sessions and did it on my own. I had not run since high school 35 years earlier, and then only because my generation was forced to participate in the President’s Physical Fitness program. The day I clocked my first 5k, for my own satisfaction, at age 59, was a red letter day .

work towards it and please please share your progress!
