In December, I heard words I hadn't heard before. "You have microvascular angina." I knew I had a hard time breathing, fatigue which comes on so fast it demands rest, check pain with shortness of breath, often pain in my left arm, and jaw. This had been ongoing, but with no real answer as to why. I knew I was also in congestive heart failure (Diastolic heart failure).

I had already gone from 288 lbs to 170 (GONE 118 lbs), but this was a whole new ballgame! I had been successful at weight loss, but this forces me to slow down. However, I am determined never to stop!! But I had to make further changes.

I knew I had to respect my body. In December, I was pushing my body too hard, causing more angina attacks. I needed to slow down. I saw the heart specialist at the end of January, who explained, "We have you on the top medication, and you are more stable, let's have you start to slowly exercise more." What a Scary sentence, and yet, a very exciting one! I have always loved exercise, as a teen (many decades ago!) I did gymnastics. I had always been active until my body started to give out. That's a different story!

Here's my week 1 daily steps with a total of 16,958, averaging 2,422 steps per day.

By week 8, here are my daily steps with a total of 25,516, averaging 3,645 steps per day. A difference of 1,223!!

I had support during this time!! I belong to the 5% Challenge in which 8 teams compete against each other, though we do have some that are not as competitive as others, I belong to one of them that is. I can't exercise as I could years ago, but I can still exercise some.

When I belong to a supportive team/group, it helps me to be accountable.

    Diane ~ I LOVE this post!! ~ Since we are on the Overall Leadership Team together, I know of the benefits you talk about here and it is wonderful that you credit the 5% Challenge. Although my 'consistency' is many times - all over the place, I come here day after day; week after week; month after month and season after season. It helps to keep me 'in check' even when I've been 'out of control'. When 'life' kind of throws you a curve ball and you can quickly get side-tracked, I come here anyway. Even if I stumble and fall, I get back up and dust myself off and keep going. Eventually (like I have done this past January), I catch myself and realize that I HAVE to pay attention to what I'm doing ~ I get my head into a better space and do what needs to be done.

    Although slow, I can say that I've lost 15 lbs. since January, 2025 and have another 10-15 to go. Right now, I've hit a plateau (and have not been as consistent as I should). I've blogged about it and have consulted with my MFP Friends here and I am confident that I can continue on my journey by practicing my Healthy Habits each and every day.

    @hicim705 Heidi with all that life throws at you, you always keep trying! And yes, succeeding! Your support not Only for me, but Many others means a lot. This is why on the 5% Challenge we have lost along with our dear members thousands of pounds!
