Adipex

Options

Hey I started on adipex 2 days ago and have lost 5lbs already but only have been able to take in 900 calories max. I'm 5'9" and 163lb currently. Is this concerning? I just don't feel like I can eat any more. I do take a multivitamin and take in at least 75g of protein and day.

If your logging is accurate, I think those numbers will have some downsides in the long run, if continued.

Adequate calories are the foundation of healthy eating. Losing weight fast is a trap, and can increase health risks in diverse ways, if continued long term.

At 5'9" and 163 pounds, you don't have a huge amount of weight to lose. Since we can only metabolize a certain amount of calories per pound of stored fat we have, someone with only a small/moderate amount of fat available to lose would risk losing more than a minimal amount of muscle and other useful tissue while losing weight, in addition to other risks of fast loss.

I'm somewhat surprised that Adipex would be prescribed for someone who's not seriously obese, but perhaps there are other off-label uses that make it necessary.

Having lost 5 pounds in 2 days probably includes some meaningful amount of water retention loss, since that's a normal thing to see when starting a reduced-calorie diet. To lose that much fat in 2 days, we'd expect you to have needed to eat about 17500 calories below your maintaining-weight calorie needs, which is improbable to be happening even at 900 calories. Most women don't burn remotely close to 17500 calories in 2 days.

If you can eat some other calorie dense but not very filling foods, that might be a good idea.
