Items with the right calories amount

Hi, I'm still new to the app so I haven't read the all post yet. My apologies if that was a question already. My struggle when I'm adding an ingredient to a recipe and not scanning there are so many different items loggs with different calories. For example "raw white onion" has between 0 to 42 calories, but even if i check only which states 100 g there are differences. So how do we know which is the correct one. Sometimes the differences slight, but if there are lot of ingredients the end could be way out of the right amount. It is a bit confusing.

You need to verify your entries with an outside source, at minimum the first time you use it. If it’s something you eat very regularly, the entry should stay in your Recent Foods. The USDA database is good for whole food items like your onion. Package info or product websites work for packaged and purchased food.
