Time to revisit

Hello,

I have had an affair with MFP where we have been on and off for a few years. So, no better time than now to get started again. 49 years old with a 16 year old. My Son is trying to gain weight and for awhile I was the one winning! I do enjoy a nice steak with a glass of red wine or a Bud light. However, I guess moderation is key. I do enjoy watching sports and having a glass of water is going to cut it when the Blue Jays are playing. Hence, the weight gain. So, now my journey continues, again.. If anyone can relate or not relate and just want to tell their story, send me a message. ( I feel like I'm on a dating app) Have a great day!! Juicy

    Hello, and welcome (back?)!

I get what you're saying, but this is soooo not a dating app. 😆 I have to admit, I cringed a little, not because of you but because some people pop up occasionally who are clearly, clearly treating it as a dating app. 😆🤣

I'm not so much a yo-yo-er, but stayed overweight for decades until age 59, lost weight with MFP, and have been hanging around maintaining a healthy weight for 9+ years since. What I'd say is that there's nothing wrong with a nice steak or some beer or wine. I can't claim to have eaten the steak during loss/maintenance (I'm a long-term vegetarian 😉), but I've definitely eaten the calorie equivalent, and have had beer and wine along the way.

As I'm sure you realize, the key is balance. For me, the less nutrient-dense or higher calorie treats needed to happen in smaller portions, or less frequently, or both. I didn't completely eliminate any foods/drinks I like during loss or maintenance, but for sure needed to manage them better.

In retrospect, I'm glad I decided not to do anything to lose weight that I wasn't willing to continue long-term to stay at a healthy weight, except for that sensibly moderate calorie deficit until I reached a healthy weight. That meant I needed to figure out how to handle routine aspects of my life with more calorie-appropriate habits: Celebrations, social events, restaurant meals, eating at friends' homes, etc.

There were some failed experiments with new habits along the way, but by the time I reached goal weight, I had a pretty solid, practiced routine. At that point, all I needed to do was add back a few calories daily, and keep going almost on autopilot with those same habits. That's worked out well for me. YMMV.

I'm wishing you success in the effort, because IME the quality of life improvement from reaching and staying at a healthy weight was more than worth the effort invested to get there.

    Best wishes~

If the romance scammer was here on MFP, please report the ID to the staff via the help function or by emailing support@myfitnesspal.com.

Unlike on a lot of other social network sites, the staff at MFP are very good about acting on complaints and getting rid of the IDs that did the bad stuff.

If it happened here, please report it to them, to protect others from a similar thing. Other people may not be as quick as you are to recognize that it's a scam, and lose money that way, besides.
