Looking at a rowing machine metrics and app

Hi. I'm looking at buying a Merach Q1SW magnetic rowing machine. I want to split my cardio between rowing and a stationary bike so I don't get bored. I'm an absolute beginner, currently doing twenty minutes on the bike with a broken foot. Authentic feel doesn't matter to me, but quiet does. I'm looking for general fitness and weight loss, and some functional muscle.
What metrics should I start out with? Just minutes spent, or do I watch travel speed or strokes per minute? I know form is crucial to a good start.
What does the Merach app do? I've never used an exercise app beyond watching YouTube, so the ads are confusing me. If it's just tracking metrics, I can do it on my phone. But if it's scenery, I might need a laptop or tablet. Are there functions to row with a group of people?
I'm excited to start this, but waiting to see if it goes on sale for Amazon Prime day.
