Time will help. As you eat better food the cravings will go away. If I want something sweet I sometimes make a smoothie with skim milk, banana and unsweetened cocoa powder. It satisfies the chocolate craving without a bunch of refined sugar.

If you're craving something, make an allowance in your calories for a serving of it.

Thanks for the reply but does that not make you worse? I have calories over but I thought that It would be cheating,

    This!

I was really craving Oreos a while back, and instead of resisting until I caved, I just made room for a couple of cookies at the end of the day. It was much more satisfying to eat 2 cookies without going over than it would be to destroy a whole package of them and feel miserable. You don't have to give anything up as long as it's in moderation and fits in your diary.

Having a small serving of something you are really craving can keep you from losing control and binging. I don't see any food as "cheating" or "bad", just stuff I shouldn't indulge in too much.

Try apple juice cut with club soda to replace pop. Slowly increase the ratio of Clud Soda until its only 20-25% juice. Or use any other nutrition juice-- JUICE, not a sugary "juice blend beverage". People might recommend diet pop- but its like drinking embalming fluid so I cannot recommend them.

I add a tsp or two of nutella to plain greek yogurt for a protein packed snack. Yes, nutella is sugar and calories with very little good in it- dispite what the ads say- but which is better for you? A chocolate bar or doctored plain greek yogurt at 150 calories. Yogurt will also help keep you feeling full and better help you resist further craving. Plain being the key flavour- it allows you to contol the sugar numbers.

As far as other sweets- I dont really resist. I make portion sized things with calorie numbers I can live with. I reduce the sugar when I can, omit when the results are still edible. I keep treats in my desk at work. For me, when they are always there I might decide to have a few peanut butter M&Ms or a GF cookie but for the most part I don't think about it. I run into more trouble when I crave them because I buy a bag and binge on them. Keeping them around (and knowing that the bag wont be empty due to a spouse or child) keeps me from over doing it.

If I cannot resist limiting to one portion- I just dont keep them in the house. Chips are my nemesis, so I do not buy them unless I know that I can leave the leftovers somewhere else or the group will eat them up. If sweets are an issue for you then you may have to go this route.

Have a very big drink of water when you are craving foods and force yourself to wait 15 minutes. If you still are crazy with desire, evaluate again. Maybe you indulge, and maybe you opt for a healthy piece of fruit. Sugar is addicting, so the more you eat of it the more you crave it.

Oh, and delay your reward if you are going with the treat yourself route. Nothing wrong with eating 2 oreos but make them something to look forward to. Serve them on a plate and put away the carton before you start snacking. Separate the impulse from the action!

How would it be cheating if you have the calories for it?

You can eat whatever foods you want and still lose weight. As long as you maintain a caloric deficit, weight loss will occur.

This. This new 'diet' has been so much easier since I figured out that if I crave chocolate chip cookies, I can have some.
