It sounds like the romance scammers are about the only people using the “friend” function these days.

YES. It’s always different names but a handful of profile pics that he keeps shuffling through of all the same dude. You’re not alone.

Yep - then they immediately start talking...then they suggest moving to another platform like WhatsApp- definitely romance scammers.

Ugh, I've gotten an average of 3 per day from the same scammer. Beyond obnoxious!

First they friend you and you accept the friend request. Then they try to get you to communicate via some private messaging system—typically one with extra privacy features like WhatsApp or Snapchat that make their number harder to trace and messages harder to retrieve. Then there's the sob story. Then they want your money. Classic scam.

These accounts are fake names and stolen profile pictures, they aren't even someone that actually wants to talk to you or get to know you. It's a scammer most likely from a data farm in another country that is trying this with every email address that's ever been leaked in a data breach until they get someone on the hook that will buy their story and start sending that sweet, sweet cash—via gift cards, of course!

Just stop engaging. Delete and block anyone that sends a request that you either don't personally know or have seen multiple posts from on the boards.

they are annoying. I have found that if you don’t answer the friend request and just ignore it they can’t keep sending friend requests everyday. Sometimes I’ve noticed the request will disappear on its own and reappear later. I’m assuming the scammers found the way to take back a friend request and then resend it but this doesn’t happen often.

I haven’t had any friend requests from scammers on here but I play Words With Friends and there are a ton on there. They usually have two first names instead of a first and last name and their pictures always stand out…most look like models. It’s easy to get rid of them because if you don’t chat back they resign the game immediately. If one fails another on their team takes over so you have to go through quite a few before they stop. I think blocking and deleting on here works but they have their team members take a shot as well before they leave you alone.
