    Hi, Debi, and welcome!

I'm a long-time MFP-er, joined to lose 50 pounds back in 2015, reached goal at 60, now 69 and hanging around to maintain a healthy weight since. My point isn't self-promotion, but rather to suggest that your goals are achievable at any age, if you persistently pursue them. I figure that if a hedonistic aging hippie flake like me - a woman with a severely limited willpower or motivation budget - can do it, most any actual more sensible mature adult can. 😆

Like you, I was already active when I committed to weight loss, so I just kept up that happy exercise routine. I did make it a point to be more consistent with strength training while losing, trying to keep as much muscle as possible (and keep bones stronger if possible) alongside fat loss. For me, the changes were all on the eating side of the equation.

I do believe in getting ample protein, but I don't low carb. That's not a diss to low-carb eating, which suits many people, but for me - a long-term vegetarian who loves her veggies and fruits - it wasn't the easiest or healthiest path. I know a low-carb plan helps some people manage appetite, and that it's important in the case of some health conditions.

Wishing you success - in my experience, the quality of life improvement is more than worth the effort required. Best wishes!
