Hey everybody! I’m new here just trying out the app to see if it can help me lose around 50 pounds! I’m an over the road truck driver and it’s hard to exercise doing this job! BUT…I’m determined to get this done! Is there any advice that you can add to help me along my journey? I’m a snacker by heart so that’s been my hardest part of starting this!

    Hi, welcome

Calorie counting is so flexible. I scheduled snacks for the times I regularly snacked... eased off later, but can always flex for things that come up, like out with friends. You're the boss of the food you eat - you get to choose - when, what, how... no guilt when you know how much and choose what you're eating.

    Welcome!

It's funny, you mention the OTR trucker almost like its a hindrance to your weight loss but I see it as sort of a benefit: you are stuck in that cab with only what you bring with you! No unplanned trips to the fridge/pantry, no temptations other than what you decide to bring in the truck with you!

If you plan ahead, have healthy snacks/meals made and prepared to take with you each day, you have an advantage others don't: you are a captive to your own environment with no outside influences other than what you allow! Yes the exercise part is going to be a challenge, but keep in mind that counting calories to lose weight and exercising are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. You do NOT need to exercise to lose weight! You watch your calories you take in in order to lose weight, you exercise for the health benefits.

You might need to be a little more proactive about your meal planning and whatnot, but this is totally doable! One persons obstacle is another persons opportunity! Good luck!

Hello there! My name is Kathy.

I recently purchased a yearly subscription by accident… Lol… I had only meant to try it for a week because I wanted to see if it was better than what I have been using. needless to say I forgot to cancel it… Lol! So I figured since I’ve already paid for it I might as well use it. But because I found it more time-consuming to enter meals I would skip a few days logging my meals. Instead, I would log them into my other app just so I could keep on track.

I have been using the Lose It! app. I have been very successful with it, logging in 106 consecutive days in a row, and currently have a 15 pound weight loss. Still need to lose 40!

Last week I had MyFitnessPal create my menu for me. I’m finding it hard to take their meal suggestions. There are a lot of veggies I like and there’s a lot that I don’t. Also, I am not a fish lover. Unless it’s tuna or breaded fish sticks… Lol! Of course, the veggies and fish dishes that I don’t like always seem to show up in the recipes suggest! I am not a great cook, but I know I can always slip in my veggies instead of theirs… and I can trade out an individual meal suggestion… Right? The problem is it just takes up too much time. I end up adjusting the meals to accommodate the dislikes, nutrients, macros and the recipe itself. I am doing this on paper because I cannot edit anything in the app itself. Aside from not being able to make edits to the meal plan in the app, I also cannot print out the recipe. Unless I cut and paste separately. Am I missing something??! Lol..please let me know how you all are doing it.

Don’t get me wrong, I really do like this app! Having a community where people can “get together” and help each other, or get help from people like yourself, is a great benefit. (Although it seems like some of the groups are dated or lacking current updates.) Also, having exercise programs available for free really appealed to me. Especially when compared to the app I use now.

So I started a new week with the MyFitnessPal meal planner and I'm now going to figure what my groceries will cost me for the week. Wish me luck!

I just got a suggested menu plan. Same meals for three days ten two days then one day. Can I mix the days up so not having same thing daily?

Yes, calorie counting allows you to swap anything.

The meal plans are suggestions. Substitute foods you enjoy that will nourish your body.

Find meal choices that work for you. They can become part of your 'go to' meals you eat and enjoy.

Sure. It's average calories over moderate time periods - like a week - that matters. Finding habits that work well for you keeps it sustainable and increases odds of long-term success.

You can mix up the days, you can have higher or lower days that average out OK (though extremes may not serve us well 😉), you can mix in some treats (though it's good to average reasonable nutrition over those few days, too). Find your own best practical routine.

Average calories over a week is available in the MFP phone/tablet app's nutrition option. It's very useful.

    Wishing you success!
