I’ve just joined as I’ve put on significant weight over past year I aim to lose 2-3 stones by Christmas. I’ve got a 10k race at Loch Ness in September and I’m aiming to raise money for a community project www.truenorthcollective.co.uk providing subsidised therapy, peer support and mental health activities for people facing mental health challenges and isolation in the Aire and Worth Valley. I’d appreciate any dieting, training and general tips to keep me on track.

Thanks Richard

You’re looking to lose 28-43 pounds in five months, while training to run a 10k?

That’s roughly 22 weeks. A pound is considered to be 3500 calories, which breaks down to a 700 calorie a day deficit. You’re looking to do even more than that. A lot more, if you think 3 stone is a good plan.

My best tip would be to slow down the rate of loss and make sure you fuel your body for this.

Be patient. Learn to use the app. Learn new habits. Make solid plans for maintenance so you don’t balloon back up after Christmas.

You wouldn’t drop your newspaper, set down your coffee mug, and immediately run out the door to do 10k with no training or preparation.

Why would weight loss be any different?
