Back Again

I feel like I’ve done this so many times. I’ve gained and lost the same 50lbs after every pregnancy and major life change and I’m done with it! I can’t diet anymore, I need to find something sustainable.
I’ve got a wonderful husband, three kids and too much life left to live to be unhappy with myself, overweight, out of shape and unwell.
I’m looking for people who are trying to eat more protein, less carbs and less processed foods.
I would love some support on this journey and I would love to support you too!

    Hello, and welcome!

I think you're hitting the exact right note here: IMO, IME, it's about finding new, permanent habits that can not only get us to a goal weight, but also keep us there long term nearly on autopilot when other parts of life get challenging . . . which they will. That's an entirely different mindset from "lose weight fast".

For you, maybe that's more protein, fewer carbs, less processed food . . . but it's different tactics for different people. I think personalized tactics are a key success factor, because we're all unique individuals with varied preferences, strengths, challenges, and lifestyles.

For me, reasonably high protein within balanced macros was the best formula; I do eat mostly less-processed foods but am not super strict about it. For sure, I eat traditional processed foods humans have eaten for centuries, like yogurt, cheese, sauerkraut, etc.; some processed foods that have generally the same ingredients I'd use if I made them from scratch in my own kitchen; and a few more highly processed treats in moderation now and then. I'm not low carb, because I love my veggies, fruits, and some whole grains. I was overweight to obese for around 30 years; I've now been at a healthy weight for more than 9.

I'm not criticizing your plan, because if it suits you, it's perfect. I think the easier the plan is to stick with, the better, as long as it adds up to appropriate calories and reasonable nutrition on average the overwhelming majority of the time. There are too many people who seem to feel they need to get on board with currently-popular diet trends, things that don't necessarily suit them well. I think everyone needs to figure out how to do it with foods they personally enjoy eating, plus find affordable and practical; and activity that yields decent basic fitness - either daily life stuff or intentional exercise - that's ideally fun, but at least tolerable and practical.

Best wishes for success - IME the quality of life improvement is more than worth the effort!
