How are people staying safe when getting poor input on the forum?

Same way as on any social media platform. Take everything with a grain of salt, verify information, and remember that the people you're speaking to on here, by and large, are just other randoms doing their own research.

And what poor input and misinformation are you referring to?

If you see what you think is poor or inappropriate information, I hope you're posting to counter with information you think is good and appropriate advice. That's extra true if you truly think someone is giving advice that's literally unsafe!

If I see advice here that surprises me or runs counter to what I've seen elsewhere, and it's about something that applies to me, I do some research on my own to check it out, focusing on using resources that I feel are credible and have good credentials and expertise about that particular subject.

Certain kinds of unsafe advice are against the Community Guidelines here, which can be found at

    https://www.myfitnesspal.com/community-guidelines

There are other relevant details there, but the most relevant is in this quote from section 6:

    Do Not:

Use any aspect of the Services to endorse, promote, glamorize, or achieve any unsafe dieting practices, including but is not limited to anorexia, orthorexia, bulimia, or very low-calorie diets. This includes positive references to ana/mia, purging, or self-starving.

Discuss controversial weight-loss techniques or diets.

Diagnose other members or offer professional medical advice.

Post content suggesting, promoting, or advertising potentially unsafe or controversial weight loss products or procedures, including non-medically prescribed supplements.

Post content or photos intended to glamorize extreme thinness. (Thinspiration/Thinspo, Bonespiration/Bonespo, Thigh Gaps, etc.)

Glamorize or promote self-harm or suicide.

If you see posts that go against that or other Community Guidelines, click "Flag" under the post, then "Report", pick one of the "Reason" click options, then type in a note about what you think is against the Guidelines or is unsafe in some other way. Then click "Send Report". It won't be instant, but human moderators will review the post and take any appropriate actions . . . usually behind the scenes, i.e., you as the person reporting may not see that action, though in many cases the post will disappear - will disappear if they agree it's against the Guidelines.
