Menopause weight loss journey

Hi, my name is Alison. I am a mom, Medical Assistant, and currently in menopause with tons of hormonal weight gain. I am a breast cancer survivor and unable to take hormones due to my reactive estrogen gene. Due to this, I had to have a radical hysterectomy and went into menopause right away and the weight gain has been horrible.
I am looking for friends in the same situation to give support and get support on this weight loss journey. Current weight is 198 and would like to get to around 150.

Hello and welcome!
I'm also a breast cancer survivor (stage III back over 20 years now), and also had estrogen receptor positive tumors so HRT was not an option. I started MFP at 183 pounds, reached a healthy weight in just under a year, and have been maintaining a healthy weight for 9+ years since, 130-point-something pounds this morning.
It IS possible . . . and if a hedonistic aging hippie flake like me with super-limited willpower/discipline can do it, I'm betting normal more sensible adults can do it, too. I'd add that if your experience is like mine, the quality of life improvement that can result is more than worth the effort it will take.
My first and best advice to anyone here is to make the easiest-to-follow possible plan that gradually leads to goal weight, rather than some "lose weight fast" restrictive eating and punitively intense exercise approach. Learning new, somewhat more positive, manageable habits that can continue long term: That's very powerful. Extremes, by contrast, tend to crash and burn . . . or so it seems from reading lots of posts here over the 10 years I've been on MFP.
