how to standardize Food naming in the database

After years of using this app, off and on, I find that I have 5 entries for strawberries, 2 for oatmeal, 4 for red wine etc. We need a standardized system for naming new foods to the database when source doesn't matter.
A strawberry is a strawberry, regardless of the store you bought it at. I shouldn't have to scan through every food in Frequent, Recent, etc, to find raw celery or broccoli. I would be willing to start over if there isa good system. :ogging just takes too long now.

Have you considered using the phone/tablet app version of MFP? There, when you go to log a food, you type in a few letters and MFP will show any of your recent/frequent foods that contain those letters together.

I see what you're saying about the web version, though. Personally, when I use the sort by name option on the recent or frequent foods lists, I can usually find what I want without duplicating a food on my list. Some can be hard to find, though.

If you'd like to suggest different food naming or searching as a feature MFP should add, post about that here:

In general, the MFP Community area is just for discussion between regular users like you and me. The MFP staff don't read all of the posts in the Community. They do read those in the area I linked above, though. Here, you're just talking to other regular users with no more power to change the software or affect food names than you have yourself.
