You’re already on the lower end of normal BMI. Any more than that and you will be borderline underweight.
There’s this generic perception that simply losing “more” weight will reveal abs and muscle. That’s not true, as I found out when I dropped to similar BMI as you’re currently at. I just looked…..thin and very unhealthy. Def no abs or muscle definition, just unpleasantly thin, bony, underfed.
Have you considered doing some kind of recomp? (Throw “recomp” in the search engine here.)
I started lifting weights specifically to build upper body strength (I had yoga goals). I was surprised how it tightened and “toned” me up. I didn’t expect it. Mind you, I don’t (can’t!) even do heavy weights But I do as much as I can and I’m consistent
I’ve actually gone up 4 or 5 BMI points since making a goal to build muscle, but I don’t look like Der Arnold. I’m still in the same clothes I was at the lower BMI. You wouldn’t know I lifted weights unless I was in workout gear.
If weights and a gym aren’t your thing, consider power yoga or Pilates. They both include a lot of core and muscle building. I don’t think anyone would walk into my yoga studio and accuse the members - male or female- of looking chubby. It’s a particularly healthy looking group.
Ditto other workouts. I swim laps as well and that’s been a great all-over workout for hips, legs, shoulders, and back. The women in my cardio weights class (there’s a bunch of popular classes in gyms and online under various names) are mostly over 50, but they are tough, and the come regularly. They look doggone stacked.
If you feel like you look chubby, consider going at it from the other direction, instead of losing losing losing.
We see some many people who get down to what they thought was their ideal weight that would make everything “pop”, and then they’re back complaining about being “skinny fat”. Yep, it’s a thing.
