3 AF out of 4
I caved last night, I just couldn't face another sleepless night… I need my sleep! I didn't overdo, and slept well. Good enough to wake up with my 1st early alarm and got my walk in before heading off to work. I walked to the store and p/up some Tart Cherry Juice and Sparking Water… my mocktail for tonight. I hear tart cherry juice can help with sleep, fingers crossed!
@WestCoastGirl_7 just AWWWWW 😍
@Michieb125 What a clever way to navigate "happy hour"!
@itladyee What are you planning to buy???

@itladyee, What lovely pictures of you and your sister! You look both connected and happy. Yes, cherish all those happy memories. Truly the depth of loss, reflects the depth of our love. (It is hard to believe that I've known you for that long here on MFP.) Hugs. Nancy
AF for the last two days, but woke up at about 2:30, and heard the grandfather clock strike 3:00 and 4:00. Those are the nights that leave me drained.

@looneycatblue ~ I stopped at WalMart, came out with 2 spatulas, body wash and some apples and peppers. I stopped at Kohls…and pretty much used the bathroom.
Then….armed with credit card in hand….Best Buy….danger danger…..New Ipad?, no mine works just fine, new computer? You just bought a MAC last November. Phone case? Seriously…. Leave the store and go home! So I did… 😎
Hope the cherry tart juice works….
@nbruns83 ~ I know, probably even longer 😍 and I'm glad I did!

@itladyee Good for you for getting out of Best Buy. Fortunately or unfortunately, the nearest Best Buy is 60 miles from here. Although, in this day in age, you can let your fingers do the shopping. 😁
I came on here today because I have no one to talk to…I'm still grieving over Tinker. We had her for almost 18 years. I feel a little guilty about adopting the new kitties. But, they are wonderful and this is now their home. We didn't really adopt them, they adopted us! They saw a couple of suckers coming 🤔 And, they did need a home. They adapted quickly and this is probably the only home they know now. They are only three months old. They are napping right now. But soon all heck will break loose! Although, I feel a little guilty adopting so soon, we are very good pet parents. And, we will take care of them just as well as we took care of Tinker. They have their first vet appointment on the 16th. They play together, sleep together and Rascal is a little lover boy. Muffin is a little more reserved, but she does attack Rascal. Anyways, I still constantly think of Tinker. I hope she doesn't feel like I'm trying to replace her. That could never be possible.
I've only been out of the house a few times since Tinker passed on August 11th. @chicbuc hasn't been posting. I hope she is OK. I do miss her. We did have something in common…we both liked to play the slot machines. There's a small place within 100 yards from here that has slots. But, I haven't even felt like doing that. And since I haven't left the house, I have plenty of playing money.
I haven't quit drinking yet. But, that is still my goal. Hopefully soon!
Anyways, sorry for the rant!
Have a nice evening everyone!

@WestCoastGirl_7 I agree that we haven't seen @chicbuc in a while and yes, hope all is well. We know this is a judgment free zone, so if going through something, anything…we are here to support.
You followed your heart and those two kitties needed you. TInker would be proud. When I lost my Yoda 2 years ago… I just wasn't ready. Plus, there was a LOT going on with moving (we were in an apartment for a while) and then losing my sister…and a list of stuff…so I waited. I'm ready now and can't wait to spoil this little puppy…
We pick her up on the 19th

@WestCoastGirl_7 I’m sorry to hear about Tinker. I wouldn’t be surprised is she sent you those little babies because she didn’t want all that love to go to waste.
@itladyee sorry about your sister, but what a cute puppy!
If we tag @chicbuc three times will she appear? 😉
So, I’m over a month without alcohol. I’m on week 4 of HRT. I asked my husband and his friend if they’ve noticed any difference. My husband half asleep gave me a thumbs up. His friend said I seemed happier and that I seemed “more feminine”. LOL, I didn’t realize I lost my femininity. Maybe that’s why I want my daughter to show more femininity… because I lost mine! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh well, I messaged the doctor to ask for a renewal of the HRT.

@itladyee Thank you. I hope Tinker is proud. It's been such an emotional time. And, such a cute puppy! Although, I can tell he won't be little for long 😀. What's his name?
@NonnieDoiron I sometimes have thought that Tinker may have had something to do with us getting the kitties. We were both in tears until we got them. And, we still are at times. But, I try not to let the babies know I'm sad. I don't want them to think that they did something wrong. You are doing so great with being AF. I'm impressed. I'll will be joining you soon. BTW…you just tagged @chicbuc for the third time. She was an inspiration for me and she told me even if she didn't post she would be checking on me. Maybe, she will appear. But there are times that I don't feel like posting either. I'm sure she's OK…she probably just needed a break.

@WestCoastGirl_7 its a girl I have a couple of ideas but can’t name her until I meet her it will be my first girl dog. I’ve had 8 dogs in my lifetime 😍
4 -
@itladyee Ok, I thought you already had her. You do need to meet them before you can name them. I had a Doberman back in the 80's. His name was Four-By 🙂 He was a very sweet dog. I also had a cat named Nicky. They got along really good. They would sleep together and would spoon. The only problem was that Four-By was 105 lbs and at times the play got a little rough. So, Nicky did have a couple of vet visits…nothing serious, but he did need a few stiches. I'm sure you're anxious to get your pup!

AF-6Today makes 35 days AF. I wouldn’t have thought I would do that just a couple months ago. I was really struggling. Still not sure if I will break the streak next weekend. That will be up to my bestie, and I’m not worried about it at all.
In December, I will have a big challenge. All my coworkers are heavy drinkers. The last time I was on travel, I had a drink or two every night with them. I’m going to have to be very vigilant and remember my goals when I’m traveling with them in December. I think my husband is going with me, so it will be easier for me because he will keep me on track if I ask him to which I will. If he doesn’t go, it’ll be harder. I have a few months to really set myself up for success on this, but it is a concern.
Anyway, off to bed. I’m tired.
5 -
@NonnieDoiron I know it's your decision. But you have a really good streak going on and I would hate for you blow it. Like you said, a couple of months ago you never thought you could have done this. I don't remember for sure, but I think you were someone struggling like me (I've probably had the least success of anyone in this group).
At the end of 2021 into early 2022, I went one day short of four months AF. I decided to have a couple of drinks one day and I became a daily drinker again. Besides your HRT treatment, don't you feel better from LA? I'm curious about that. It's something that motivates me. Anyways, just my thoughts…and I do care.
As you all know, I don't like to announce when I will have an AF day. But I do have whiskey for tomorrow because the liquor store doesn't open until 11 am on Sundays (and I didn't want to be high and dry). But, starting on Monday, I'm going to get serious. No alcohol, healthy eating, and easing back into exercise (mainly walking). I need to take care of myself, my husband, my two kitties…and I just want to feel good again.
IMO…drinking has no positive qualities!
Talk to you all tomorrow!

@globalhiker ~ I don't have a name for her yet. I have a few ideas, but I won't pick anything until I meet her on the 19th. I almost had to move the puppy pickup date! The breeder is in southern Indiana near the KY line. My original plan was to stay in New Albany, have dinner at Agave & Rye,(great unique taco place) then grab the pup the next morning. But when I tried booking, hotels were sold out or $400+—thanks to Larger than Life, a giant rock festival in Louisville on the 18th.
After some discussions, the breeder suggested French Lick. I found a hotel there under $150. At first, I was bummed about skipping Agave & Rye, but then checked out their website for other options. They also have a location in Indianapolis—right on our route. Perfect lunch stop, plus a couple fun things to do there, then we’ll land in French Lick for the night (they have a casino) before puppy pickup the next morning. I'm pretty excited.
So excited, that I I went online to Amazon and spent close to $200 getting everything I need. I spent about $100 last week :)
Made a nice fire last night, yep, wine. Friday, evening alone (it was great), yep, wine.
Watching football today and I have not cracked the champagne, which was a norm, so today is looking like I'm back to AF.@Walela617 ~ Congrats on 5, almost 6 days!
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

@itlaydee OMG how cute is your soon-to-be new puppy! Black lab? Definitely let us know her name.
@WestCoastGirl7 you’re still grieving, so be gentle with yourself. There is no replacing Tinker, and you didn’t. You just added to your family of beloved pets, past and present.@Walela that’s great! Congrats!
I did better this weekend on the boat. Three instead of four drinks/day, and that’s an improvement. Monday Reset, which will be AF. Off to the gym!

Glad that last week is over. My husband had his back surgery and is home now on the way to recovery. Such a relief to get all that waiting and stress over with. Now onto a new life chapter.
I did not keep it together the day of his surgery when I came home alone. Exceeded my stress max that day so I solved that with a dinner of junk food and tequila with OJ. Yes, not AF, broke the diet and just bring on the thousands of calories and stick them on my hips. Strange that is the body's natural instinct under extreme stress.
After that it was a seltzer and lemon weekend but I skipped 2 gym sessions to stay by his side and be his nurse for awhile. That is OK. Life now feels the way it did when I had babies and the only time to myself is when he is napping. Which is like 6x a day so that is good and I can get some work and cleaning done.
I am back in normal AF mode now where I hope I can ride out the rest of the month smoothly and focus on hitting my protein, nutrients, weights, and miles and miles of cardio.
@WestCoastGirl_7 just saw the photos of your cute kitties - I love that you have 2 and they can play together.
@NonnieDoiron did you say you started HRT? Me too. Just ultra low dose estradiol gel. Powerful stuff. I got it for sleep primarily but it dampened my appetite (love that), my hair stopped shedding, I am sleeping, skin is glowing, the sagging skin under my arms is going away, dry skin went bye-bye.

Well, I wasn't able to quit drinking today. I didn't have anything in the house this morning. But I was really hurting. I'm back up to drinking a about a fifth (750 ml) of whiskey a day. My husband went to the liquor store at 9 am when they opened. When I lived in CA, they started selling alcohol at 6 am. Here in Oregon, it makes it rough. They start selling alcohol at 7 am, but the liquor stores aren't open yet and they don't sell it in the grocery stores. I think the state thinks they're helping people. But, in reality, they're hurting people. I imagine in some of the bigger towns around here that the liquor stores may have longer hours. In the small town that I live in, on Sundays, they are only open from 11 am to 5 pm. So, if you have a problem with alcohol, you have to stock up…somewhat counterintuitive. Anyways, I have an empty half-pint bottle and I'm going to fill it up and save it for the morning. I also haven't been eating well. The thought of eating doesn't even sound good. I do eat at least once a day though. But it's not always the healthiest choice.
I realize that for most of you, you have the option of just drinking less. That was a reality at one time for me too. But, right now, quitting drinking is a matter of life or death. In the past, even after not drinking for one day, I started feeling better. And, after about 5 days, I basically felt normal again. I sure hope that happens again…I'm beginning to wonder? I can barely walk and exercise is definitely out of the question! But I will continue to work at it. I'll probably have to start with the PT exercise "Sit to Stands".
I think having the kitties is a good thing. They make me laugh and they give me a reason to try to quit so I can live. They are just babies and I need to be around for them.
Sorry for the rant and thanks for listening!
Have a good day everyone!

@globalhiker, yes, I started a low dose Estrodial patch. I’m going to give it another month, but I may need to go up in the dose. I do feel a little better, but I don’t want to do too much too fast.
Sat on the porch enjoying the cooler evening air with the husband. He had a very large sangria, but I just had my water.

@globalhiker Surgery of a loved one is just so darn hard to get through! Keep taking care of yourself when you can; between the medication management, all the little needs and handling meals, etc…..considering all that you’ve done, you are doing outstanding. I cried yesterday and had a real pity party (still caring for my DH during his recovery). I'm sure it was a necessary release from holding everything together for so long. I can’t imagine back surgery - hugs to you!!
Stayed AF last night even though the wine devil was throwing a huge tantrum on my shoulder for what seemed like hours!
But, today is a new day and things are looking brighter.Walking and Yoga are helping.

@globalhiker I'm glad your husband is recovering from his surgery. Surgery is never fun. But I'm sure things will get back to normal soon. I have to admit that the tequila and OJ sounds a bit enticing…but, obviously, don't listen to me 🤔
I'm still working on my AF life. But, it's been difficult. I think my muscles have atrophied from inactivity. I'm still able to get things done, but I have to rest between chores. So I just have to start out slow. Once I have a few days AF, I could probably send my doctor a message and he would most likely send me to PT. But I'll probably just wait until I see him next month.
I still miss my little Tinker. But, the kitties have been a joy. I've been sending my brother pictures of Tinker. His SO is very artistic and she does scrapbooking. I haven't asked, but I thought (hint, hint) she may make me a scrapbook of my memories of Tinker.
Take care everyone!

@globalhiker glad to hear your hubby’s procedure went well. Super stressful, indeed! Amazing how we never seem to crave raw broccoli in times of stress-just whatever is fast and easy, and gives us some nice numbing relief. Well, it was one day, and no one would blame you for going off your eating plan.
@Michieb125 how is your hubby doing after his surgery? Hope he is recovering well.
AF tonight. I stepped on the scale this morning. It was not good! At least I went to the gym.

I'm a little late to the party! I definitely need to cut back on the wine. lol
I put on 10lbs over the summer from too many calories from the drink.
I have my mind back in a good place and decided the daily consumption isn't helping me.

The plan is to have more LA days and drop the unwanted pounds.
Here we go again! :)

@Womona hubby is doing well, slowly but surely. Thanks for asking! Has his first post op appt with the Ortho surgeon today. I feel so much lighter this week.
So great to see you back @xbowhunter! You’ve got this!5
