Hello and welcome (back)! I think I remember seeing your ID before. 🙂

I joined MFP at 59, for very similar reasons: My blood work was bad, my blood pressure was bad, my doctor was increasingly emphatic in encouraging me to take statins, and I didn't want to. (I thought I'd given up enough cognitive bandwidth to chemotherapy already, and brain fog is reportedly a common side effect of statins.)

I had pretty low expectations, since I'm a hendonistic aging hippie flake with - these days - a short attention span, and I've always had a limited budget of willpower, discipline or motivation. But calorie counting turned out to be perfect for me: A way to balance current pleasure with continuing future better health, so both current me and future me could be happier. I'm now 69, still active, at a healthy weight, and with solidly and consistently normal blood test results and blood pressure.

I think progress is possible at any age, as is health or fitness improvement. It does take a commitment to the process, plus some patient persistence, but IME it doesn't need to be super restrictive, miserable, etc.

Wishing you success - IME the quality of life improvement is more than worth the effort it takes to achieve it!
