Hello

I need to lose weight my knees hurts I'm sober and fater then ever I've been almost fasting for 24 hrs hopefully going to 48hrs tomorrow. My doctor told me to read the obesity code and its so boring and doesn't make much sense to me when I looked up the author on YouTube he has a lot of videos about fasting and how diet and exercise will only work for a few months before your body regulates and won't lose anymore weight. I do not want to be skinny and I'm still want to have a small tummy it's a necessity for women to protect your organs, Iam pretty muscular but I'd like to see improvement and have a stronger back.

Diet and exercise are still the best way to lose....calories in vs calories out...it is that simple. As long as you burn more than you have coming in....you will lose (unless underlying conditions exist).

I was obese. Every time I went to the doctor complaining of this pain or that, GERD, or fatigue, she would tell me “lose weight, it will help”, and she’d hand me a simple two page eating plan.

I’d get in the car, wad it up angrily, and leave in a huff. Who was she to tell me I had a weight problem? (Body dysmorphia works both ways.)

Until one time she caved in and gave me a prescription. This time the warning label was the size of a sheet, which got my attention, so I read it. I was horrified at the side effects, that once you started using it, you couldn’t come off, etc etc etc. this stuff was a lifelong commitment.

I fished the eating plan out of the passenger seat, where I’d left it (ignoring it means it doesn’t exist, right?!), called and asked if she’d re-test me in 90 days.

In 90 days I was down 25 or 30 pounds. My GERD had disappeared with the first ten lost. I felt better and more energized.

My doctor was - and still is- absolutely thrilled for me and encouraged me to continue what I was doing. It wasn’t perfect, but I still got results.

That little two page plan was a godsend. I tried to look at it as not what I “couldn’t eat” but what I could. Having something that simple, in black and white, no recipes (I had to sit down and figure out what I could make to fit those guidelines), made it far easier than I thought.

You may lose water weight with a 48 hour fast. You’re going to be so hungry when it’s over, I bet you’ll eat the farm. I would have.

Instead of throwing stuff at the wall and hoping something sticks, log and weigh your food and actually pay attention to what you eat.

My body is not a temple. I enjoyed homemade yogurt ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate syrup last night. I also had several very nice snacks, and three delicious meals that I actually enjoy eating. Turns out, i’d much rather have what I’m eating now than the junk and fast foods I ate before and thought were soooo good.

It’s simply a matter of monitoring what you eat, and retraining your taste buds.

I ultimately lost 10 sizes and have been maintaining at a size 4 for several years now. Ironically, my weight has gone up due to muscle gain, but my size hasn’t changed. You’re going to learn a LOT about yourself and your body on this journey, if you really lock down into it.

You can make this hard and punish yourself, and fail, or you can show yourself some kindness, go slower, and succeed. The river of time will pass regardless. I’m coming up on my 7th anniversary here. I can’t beleive it had passed so quickly.

What if I’d fasted and done dumb (sorry, but that’s just not a good start, imho, and others here will disagree, I’m sure) stuff and regained and made zero progress, versus being thoughtful about the process and taking a year or so to lose 40% of my starting weight?

how diet and exercise will only work for a few months before your body regulates and won't lose anymore weight.

and this is absolute, utter nonsense.

Ask any of the successful people here. Always tinkering up or down with my calories to stay in my preferred weight/size range, particularly during and after travel, which is when I gain.

But, I like to try new things, and if you’re going to travel, you should try new things.

Punishing yourself is just a fast path to misery and guilt.

I always think of coming home and getting right back on plan as a reward, because I’m happy to get back to my chosen foods. No way would I elect to eat something dry, bland or tasteless. Life is to short, and too many tasty, healthy foods available.

Losing weight is only punishment if you choose to make it so.
