What should I be eating?

Hi everyone, I'm new here
I'm 163cm (5,4) and around 53kg (116lbs). I'm 18 years old and I've joined this site because I really want to get healthy!
I don't necessarily want to lose weight, just fat. I know I'm not overweight, but I'm not very toned. I have an elliptical trainer and use it every day for around 20 mins. In 20 mins I'll run anywhere between 3-4km. I'll change my workout as I go along and see improvements (which I already have, last week when I started I could only run 2km!) and I do a Zumba class once a week for an hour. The only thing I'm wondering about is my diet, I'm a vegetarian and I'd just like some advice on my eating habits. I don't drink soft drinks and have cut out 95% of all sugary/junk food! But at meal times I'm often stumped as to what to have... Should I go for the salad because it's light and healthy? Or the pasta or sandwich because I need more fuel because I work out everyday?
How much of each food group should I be having? I'm not doing intense workouts so I don't need a strict diet but I have a feeling that since I'm working harder each day, my body won't be able to keep up with my regular fruit and veggie diet!
Any tips would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

If you are wanting to get "toned".....then get off the elliptical and stop running and get into a weight room and start moving around some iron.
You will never get toned if all you do is aerobic activity......
Toned means you are working muscle......aerobic is working the heart.
Since you are a vegetarian.....will be tough for me to give you diet advice.....
But you need to up your protein, plain and simple.
And your typical good places of protein are chicken, fish, beef and dairy.0 -
What you should do is have your body fat measured. Since you are not overweight the goal is to reduce your body fat percentage. Once you know where you're at you can make a goal. Cardiovascular exercise will not help you achieve the tone you are looking for, what you CAN do is start weight training. Don't worry you will not "bulk up". Adding weights to your routine will help you reduce your body fat % and look better naked (and who doesn't want that?).
Good luck!

I say cut your cardio down to once a week
do calisthenics or boxing on a punch bag or both. Pilates is another good one
Replace your carbs and go for Black beans in water (drain the water) Flavor them with Passata and Tabasco.
Keep your dairy down too or have low/free fat dairy.
cut your fruit down too(100g a day would be fine)0 -
don't eat rocks that sh@t hurts
** excuse the ramblings of the sleep deprived ;p0 -
