Something happened to the nutrient listings

I had a Gardein burger today, added it to my diary and it showed 4 g of protein. I thought that couldn't be correct so I checked the package and it's 14 g!! I don't want to have to second guess MFP on the nutrients in foods, but I guess that what it's come to. It used to be correct before they started messing with this "new" app.

The database is mostly crowd-sourced, entered by regular users like you and me . . . except not all of them are as careful entering data as we are. The bar-coded entries aren't any more likely to be accurate than any others: It's not a direct pipeline to correct, current information from the manufacturer as many people think. It's just whatever was typed in by the first person who scanned that bar code.

There are lots of incorrect entries. There have been lots of incorrect entries the whole time I've been here . . . over 10 years of logging here at this point. It's for sure not new.

In fact, things have improved, because MFP has people working behind the scenes on improving the database content, a project that is going to take quite a while. But it's better than it used to be, believe it or not. It definitely hasn't changed with "this new app". The database content and the app work together, but they are separable things. The old web version and the phone/tablet app use the same database.

What's the answer if we want to be accurate? Find accurate entries, and log those. If we can't find accurate entries - I usually can, BTW - then we need to make our own accurate entries in My Foods.
