Old Newbie
Used Myfitness Pal over the years and it always has been my go to app when thinking of losing weight.
At 62 years of age I can't keep NOT accomplishing my goal of reaching 168 lbs.
Currently 184 lbs (Stuck here for last 6 years)

Hello and welcome to the Community side of MFP!
Coincidentally, I joined MFP a bit after you did (2015), close in age (59), and started weight loss at a similar weight (183). The big difference was that I'm a woman, non-tall (5'5"/165cm), so I had more to lose.
I feel like the big prize on offer here isn't reaching that goal weight . . . it's staying at a healthy weight long term, ideally permanently. IMO, the answer to that isn't a diet plan - treating it like a project with an end date - but instead focusing on gradually finding, practicing and permanently following a gradually more positive set of routine eating and activity habits.
Those things we do on repeat day-in and day-out will determine the majority of our results. Even that doesn't need to be perfect every minute: Pretty good on average most of the time will do fine, and is more achievable.
I'm 69 now, still at a healthy weight and active after reaching a healthy weight at 60. This is achievable in our demographic.
In some ways, we have advantages I suspect many young'uns mostly don't: We know ourselves very well, and have learned over decades how to exploit our personal strengths and evade our personal weaknesses in order to achieve big goals in patient, persistent small steps. We did that to get an education, put our finances in adequate order, follow a job/career, raise a family, make a home, probably learn some hobby or home improvement skills, and more.
I'm betting you have those tools in your toolkit. The goal here is to apply those insights and skills in remodeling our eating and activity habits in a more positive long-term direction. That's achievable, in my experience . . . and the quality of life improvement from succeeding can be huge.
